Mets fans expected to see a lot of record breaking performances at Shea Stadium this year, many coming from the left arm of Johan Santana.
Monday night they saw a record performance than involved Johan pitching, but it had a little more to do with the Mariners bats, particularly that of pitcher Felix Hernandez. In the second inning, after a David Wright two-out error loaded the bases, King Felix became the first American League pitcher in 37 years to hit a grand slam.
How's that big time offseason acquisition treating you now?
Hernandez grand slam, couple with his stellar pitching for four innings gave baseball's worst team a 5-2 win over New York, who slides back under the .500 mark. Felix only pitched four innings, because of an injury suffered while covering the plate. It didn't look good, but his grand slam sure did.
Is it time for Jerry Manuel to go gangster on Johan Santana? Mariners 5, Mets 2

Complete Sheet Even with Ned Yost at the helm, the most important Brewer is Ben Sheets. If he's healthy and pitches like he did Monday night, Milwaukee will remain a factor in the NL Central. Considering that the Cubs and Cards have two of the better records in baseball, trailing by six games right now in late June isn't all the bad. Sheets walked zero Braves in a complete game, his third of the season. Brewers 4, Braves 1
Old-Fashioned Pitchers Duel Great interleague series in Boston this week with the Arizona Diamondbacks paying a visit. I enjoy these NL vs AL matchups regardless, but it's even more entertaining when you get two of the best pitchers in each league squaring off. Dan Haren and Josh Beckett dueled for seven innings, with the Snakes hurler allowing just two hits. DBacks 2, Sawx 1
