Here's some video from the 10th round of last night's Floyd Mayweather - Ricky Hatton fight. Although ESPN had it as Mayweather knocking himself out, the pretty boy knocked Hatton down and out.
The fight was alot closer than that. HBO analyst had the fight in Ricky's favor 4 rounds in. Ricky staggered Floyd in the first. Ricky kept the pressure and in few of those rounds although they were one at a time Hatton was hitting Floyd with good shots that send Floyd running back to the corner and playing defence.
Great work by Floyd in disrupting Hatton's game plan and holding on to him instead of trying to fire back while against the ropes. If anyone saw the fight, Floyd kept placing hs elbow out to disrupt Hatton's work. FLoyd did look un easy for the first 3 rounds. The fight was close up to the first 8 rounds which I had 4 Rounds a piece.
The 9th was a total shut out by Floyd Mayweather and hit a Ricky Hatton who was not interested in playing defence or taking him time ot the attack. Round 9 and 10 is what maks the punch numbers so staggering and broad. No punches landed by Hatton in round 9. none. He might of landed a few in round 10 but nothing meaningful. Floyd hit him with everything in those two rounds and faught on the inside.
I dont think Floyd every looked "bigger". They both seemed equal in power, FLoyd just hit the cleaner shots in the last 4 rounds or so. Hatton forced Mayweather to fight back and took away the "art of self defence" and forced him to take on the "art of war".
Mayweather said Hatton was one of the toughest opponent he's ever had and again announced his retirement. When asked about fighitng Miguel Cotto or Shane Mosley, Floyd said they're great champions but he has no interest in returning in 2008. 2009 maybe?
