Comedian George Carlin passed away on Sunday night at the age of 71, and while Carlin was known for being an exceptionally blunt and honest comedian, he also occasionally veered into sports.
This is Carlin's rather classic rundown of what the terminology differences are between baseball and football.
I've never really thought about it much before, but Carlin's right on a lot of levels. We definitely describe football with terms normally associated with war, whereas baseball gets the more lighthearted treatment.
All I can say is this. Kellen Winslow Jr. definitely agrees with Carlin, no question. "I'm a soldier!"
I love how Winslow is made out to be an a$$ for saying he was a soldier, but nearly every athlete says they went to "Battle" on a "battlefield" and they are "warriors" and went to "war". Give me break. Winslow just said that at the wrong time.
