I know that probably 3 or 4 of you on this site have been wondering where all the Euro 2008 live threads have been. Well, I can't answer that question, but I can give you this: It's your Germany vs. Turkey semifinal live thread!

Yes, now that we're in the late stages of Euro 2008, and the diving, sucktastic Italians are out of it, I think people are pretty interested. Plus, watching anything - including soccer - beats working.

Obviously this isn't the semifinal match-up anyone expected. Turkey is basically the George Mason of Euro 2008 and Germany beat a heavily favored Portugal squad in the quarterfinals. Here are some tidbits to keep in mind.
  • German coach Joachim Loew will be back on the bench after his one match suspension for getting into a verbal brawl with the Austrian coach.
  • Loew is expected to name the team that started the 3-2 quarter final win over Portugal
  • Turkey has eight players out through injury or suspension
  • Semih Senturk will replace Nihat Kahveci upfront for Turkey (I have no clue who either of those guys are)
  • Germany have won four of their five previous European Championship semi finals in 1972, 1976, 1992 and 1996 with their only defeat coming against Holland at Euro 1988
  • Turkey have committed the most fouls in the tournament (87) and have collected the most yellow cards (14)
I'll be rooting for Turkey, primarily because I like Cinderella teams and I like eating turkey.

All right, enjoy the festivities and the diving. And last of all, let's get the Simpsons take on soccer, which may be the most hilarious clip in the history of television.

Is it too late for me to take back my prediction of Turkey winning?

WOW.... Turkey with a bit of luck there. That should make this one interesting.

And Germany comes right back. Much prettier.

Did they seriously fix that guy's head with a staple gun, or was that a joke? If they did, maybe we should re-think some of the jokes about the toughness of soccer players.
