Glasgow Rangers Fans Riot

Mmmm, Tastes Like Soccer Riot

by 100%InjuryRate 100%InjuryRate | >7 days ago7 Comment Comments »

Glasgow Rangers Fans Riot Photo Sometimes it's tough on down days, when not a lot is going on. But that's why soccer riots exist. They help fill the void when nothing else is going on. And yesterday oh boy was there ever one hell of a soccer riot. Except it was slightly different than what you'd expect.

The Glasgow Rangers were playing in the UEFA Cup Final (which is like the poor man's Champion's League) and a bunch of drunken revelers came to watch them play on a giant TV screen set up in Manchester. Which is always a great idea. Get a bunch of drunken hooligans all together in one central location.

Naturally the TV cut out half way through the game. Uh oh.

The resulting chaos created pictures like the one above (from The Daily Mail), and this rather scary video courtesy of Machochip (via With Leather).

According to The Daily Mail, three police officers were injured, including one officer who was hit so hard his electronic earpiece was left embedded in his head and had to be removed by doctors. Man, I winced just writing that sentence.

Anyway, I guess we can all take some solace in the fact that the Rangers lost 2-0. As for my opinion of soccer fans, don't worry, it couldn't get any lower than it already is.

+2 thumbs upIt's sad that just a few dozen dumbasses who decided to started a riot & destroy things ended up making the 100,000+ fans who traveled to Manchester look bad.

+2 thumbs upI believe you meant to say "It's sad that 100,000+ dumbasses who decided to start a riot & destroy things ended up making the few dozen fans who didn't riot in Manchester look bad."

Hey when you get fueled up enough anyone in colors than your own is the enemy, no matter who you are. A drunken English "Football" horde would stomp the Dahlia Llama if their paths crossed.  Then again looking at some of these gents, they would be willing to stomp anyone who was not wearing the same skin color as well.

Disclaimer Alert - that was just my humble opinion and only indicative the rioting hooligans and to not the Rangers and there supporters, even though I pull for Celtic, or to the people of the Scotland and Britain, since this kind of hooliganism and worse (oh yes there is worse) can be found through other countries.

+2 thumbs upMost of those gents looked like they would be willing to stomp anyone who came between them and the last donut.

I think pretty much all soccer teams in Europe have bad elements and fans who are likely to be violent and start crap like this. Certainly Rangers have their share (though my friends in Glasgow who support Rangers would surely deny this ).

As many have pointed out - yesterday could easily look like an afternoon tea once Manchester United & Chelsea play the Champions League Final next week. 2 English sides with large fanbases, plus the Russian police, what could go wrong?

+1 thumbs up

The more and more I think about the Champions League Final, why is it that all I can hear in my head is the Kaiser Chiefs "I Predict a Riot".  This could make the Titanic sinking looking a minor fender bender.
