Sometimes it's tough on down days, when not a lot is going on. But that's why soccer riots exist. They help fill the void when nothing else is going on. And yesterday oh boy was there ever one hell of a soccer riot. Except it was slightly different than what you'd expect. The Glasgow Rangers were playing in the UEFA Cup Final (which is like the poor man's Champion's League) and a bunch of drunken revelers came to watch them play on a giant TV screen set up in Manchester. Which is always a great idea. Get a bunch of drunken hooligans all together in one central location.
Naturally the TV cut out half way through the game. Uh oh.
The resulting chaos created pictures like the one above (from The Daily Mail), and this rather scary video courtesy of Machochip (via With Leather).
According to The Daily Mail, three police officers were injured, including one officer who was hit so hard his electronic earpiece was left embedded in his head and had to be removed by doctors. Man, I winced just writing that sentence.
Anyway, I guess we can all take some solace in the fact that the Rangers lost 2-0. As for my opinion of soccer fans, don't worry, it couldn't get any lower than it already is.
