Today was dubbed "Gut-Check Saturday." Which naturally reminded me of Nickelodeon's GUTS. Do you have it? Do you have it? GUTS.
Who Showed Some:
Stanford - Two fourth and long conversions on the final drive, standing up against the Trojans at their place. 40-point underdogs.
Notre Dame - Whether they benefited from showing some guts or simply knocking out UCLA's starting QB, they did enough to win their first game. Irish still only had 140 yards total offense.
Texas A&M - Down 17 points at halftime to I'M A MAN!!! The Aggies came after Mike Gundy with a lot of Jovorski Lane (more than 2 carries this time, grand idea) to win 24-23. After the Miami loss, Franchione needed a win to save is job.
Virginia Tech - Remember them? Yeah, they're still OK. Beamer Ball was in full effect tonight. Little offense, a lot of special teams and defense. VT will be there when the ACC title is decided.
Illinois - 3-point favorites by vegas but very few others. Most impressive, the Illini out-toughed the Badgers
Who Didn't:
Michigan State - "Typical Spartans." It makes me sick, but the local press have every reason to go with their favorite headline today. Technically you could say the Spartans coaching staff had guts and no brains at the end of the game, but I'm still putting them in this category. After running for 287 yards in regulation, MSU inexplicably opted for 4 consecutive passing play (the 3rd and 4th of which were obviously necessary) in overtime. All fell incomplete.
Nebraska - Scored just 6 points on the road at Missouri and allowed 473 total yards to Chase Daniel. Not exactly the performance you want to see with the Big 12 North on the line.
Georgia - Guess who was just a little overrated. 12th? Before you blinked the Dawgs were down 28-0 at Tennessee.

Double Dare 2000!
2000 was terrible; I actually saw the host of that show on an Olive Garden commercial recently...
GUTS with Mike O'Malley was the best; had the British chick named Mo too, was always fun to watch; still do if you have the channel called GaS with Legends of the Hidden Temple, and all the other good old ones.
Double Dare sucked after Marc Summers left the show. Legends of the Hidden Temple with Kirk Fogg was the best. It took stamina, speed, and knowledge. Guts was also great. I wanted to be on both shows when I was younger.
