Hockey Fight Of The Day: Anaheim Ducks vs Dallas Stars
If Only Every Hockey Game Could Be As Awesome As Saturday's Stars-Ducks Game [Fight Of The Day]
In what may have been the best hockey game of the year so far, the Anaheim Ducks beat the Dallas Stars 2-1 on Saturday.

What made it such a great game? These 3 quality fights:

George Parros vs Krys Barch:

Chris Kunitz vs Sean Avery:

Steve Montador vs Steve Ott

Thanks to Hockey-Fights.com: Parros vs Byrch, Avery vs Kunitz, Montador vs Ott

You're right...this WAS a great game...but it didn't have a whole lot to do with these fights. (And takedowns are highly overrated, IMO - especially when one guy dominates the entire fight and loses his footing on the ice). That said, if my Ducks insist on being a rough and tumble team and continue fighting, they need to learn how to win some.

Three example of why they are Mighty no more.

Montador and Ott looked a little more like Dancing with the Stars

Just what I like to see-----------Two of my least favorite teams going at it. Honestly, only the first fight was good. I am impressed with Parros. His fighting technique has improved greatly.

Ok.. the last couple did look like they were trying out for dancing with the stars, I cracked up when they mentioned Tom Bergeron (sp) the co-host of Dancing With the Stars.

But, I have to ask, since I'm still learning the arts of Hockey,  why is the fight so important?  Is it just a macho guy thing?  Is it serious business?  The Ref's are usually watching and letting it go til they hit the ice.  Occasionally someone actually connects a bare fist and a face, but usually it looks like they are hitting each others pads.  Do they really just get THAT pissed off? Is it something you pratice to learn, how to start a hockey fight 101?  Better yet, if ya start it, do ya take Finish and Win Fights 102?

It's generally an enforcement thing - sometimes yea it's just two guys who hate each other or have been yapping at each other throughout the game that just decide " to hell with it" and go toe-to-toe...but there is an actual "reason" for it sometimes; it just depends on what's going on.

For an example of one of the types of "strategy", hypothetically speaking let's say one of the Dallas Stars was taking some cheap shots against one of the Ducks players well-known for scoring, but he's not getting penalized for it by the refs (or sometimes even if he is) - one of the Ducks enforcers - less important offensive player to have on the ice for scoring, but tough; gritty - will go after the Stars player.

Again, that's just one example. And it probably didn't even make sense...or confused you even more. :(

Thank you Jess, that does make sense and does help a lil to understand the fighting.  It just seems they would hurt their hands more than the other player, unless they actually get lucky and connect w/their face.  When I watch most of these clips.. it seems they rarely get a *driect connect*.  But I'm learning, thanks for taking the time :)

I gave you a funny for pointing out the obvious....It just seems they would hurt their hands more than the other player,
