I'm not sure how in God's name anyone could defend what Houston's Aubrey Coleman did to Arizona's Chase Budinger on Sunday - I mean, Coleman curb stomped Budinger, then smiled and gave his teammates high fives while getting ejected - but Houston coach Tom Penders is doing just that.
See, Penders believes that there's a conspiracy against Coleman being perpetuated by none other than ESPN! Who he used to work for! Oh the irony.
Anyway, let's listen to what the man who supports curb stomping had to say today about ESPN's nefarious trickery on Houston's 1560 The Game radio station:
I'm not sure what tape Pender's watching with his requisite tinfoil hat on, but I see Coleman look directly down at Budinger, then proceed to walk on his grill. Not like it matters anyway. It's kind of hard to miss a 6'8" guy sitting on the ground in front of you, so you know Coleman intentionally stepped on Budinger."They doctored it up. They put that x-ray vision thing in, as if Aubrey was looking down, which painted a very poor picture of what actually happened. We have replays of the game taken at different angles, where we have the entire sequence ... Aubrey's eyes never do anything but look straight ahead and then up and toward the ceiling ... ESPN made it look like he was looking down. I think it was a total distortion.
I've worked there, and I've seen them do that kind of thing. I called a producer I know over there, and he's pretty high up, a guy named Norby Williamson; I called him three times. And he hasn't returned my calls. So you know something's not right. ... He was tried and convicted without a jury. Without a defense."
Naturally, Penders had nothing to say about why Coleman was so happy on the sideline after doing this and giving teammates high fives. But Penders did apparently have this interesting tidbit to add. He apparently had a sports psychologist look at the replay, who determined that it was an accident. And here's the money quote:
"And this psychologist is a guy who has worked with the New York Yankees."
So that explains why the Yankees haven't won a World Series in forever.
Next up for Penders, defending Osama Bin Laden and the Roswell aliens. They were framed, man.
