Probably the only thing more amusing than hearing Dikembe Mutombo speak, is listening to his teammates try and impersonate him. The Houston Rockets gave it a try this week.
I don't know about you, but of all people, I agree with the FSN anchor that Steve Novak did the best job. Bobby Jackson's is funny because I'm pretty sure he was just drunk ... and not cookie monster drunk.
The Rockets took their imitation routine to the floor last and won their 19th straight. The last team to do that was the '00 Los Angeles Lakers with Kobe and Shaq. We know how that season ended. Despite the fact that just about every team with a winning streak this long has won the NBA title, I'm not even sure I'll pick them to get past the first round. Right now the Rockets would face the Suns. Despite this overreaction to Phoenix's early losses, I'd go with Steve Nash in that matchup.
Credit Rick Adelman for convincing the Rockets to play defense every night. That's not an easy task at this level. Getting an NBA player to play D for one night remains a monumental task for most head coaches.
Chuck Hayes did a good impression. The Rockets are playing really good right now. I do think the can make it out of the first round this year. They can hang with anyone in a series. Their role players are consistent night-in and night-out.
I think they will make it to the Western Finals.(don't laugh to hard)
I don't think it's a coincidence, but I've noticed the fans who are dissing the Suns the most are Lakers fans.
You wouldn't be suggesting that the last two years may've built up a bitterness towards the Suns?
Bitterness or not, it doesn't change the fact that the Suns traded away a better scorer, passer, defender, and player that actually fit their system for a worse scorer, passer, defender and player that doesn't fit in at all. They've won four games with Shaq. One of those was over Memphis, another over Boston in one of the worst games of the season, and another over San Antonio when they shot 35%. Had San An just shot 40% from the field, they would've won that game. Ginobili and Duncan shot a combined 13 of 38 that game. How many times will that happen in a 7 game series? Once, maybe twice? Shaq has made Raja Bell worse, Amare Stoudemire worse, and even Nash worse with his presence. He's been the anti-MVP. Phoenix will beat Memphis tonight, and the media will pick up the "Has Phoenix turned it around story?" all day on Wednesday. That story will end though on Thursday when Golden State runs Phoenix right out of the building.
I am trying not to hate on people, but I am not a fan of the Suns deal, but know knowing that the Mavs wanted Shaq I am better with it. From a basketball point of view I just don't think he fits the style they had played, and to try to change styles is tough to do in-season. But hey I am not an NBA expert even after staying at Holiday Inn Express.
