Pop Quiz: Who's the Oregon State three-star freshman recruit who ran around, between, and through a bunch of four and five star blue-chips recruits from USC?
Quizz Rodgers got lost in a sea of blue-chip recruits in Texas -- because they were headed to the "bigger schools" -- and he may not have even had a Beavers offer if not for his brother already enrolled at Oregon State.
Last night, the 5'6 180 pound freshman carried the football 37 times for 186 yards and two touchdowns. His supposed 4.6 speed didn't seem to affect his ability to leave All-American Rey Maualuga and Brian Cushing dizzy.
When it really comes down to it, football is a very simple game. The team that is more motivated and more physical wins just about every time. Southern California was inexplicably not mentally prepared for the trip to Corvallis and just assumed it's natural talents would overwhelm the Beavers.
Not so, thanks to my new favorite player: Quizz.
I'm as guilty of this as anyone, but far too much attention is given to a high school prospects' "stars." Last week it was the diminutive Rodney Steward of Colorado who ran through and around a ranked team on Thursday night. Stewart was a two-star prospect, completely overlooked by everyone in the Midwest.
If the little guy wants it more, he'll get it. Thanks for the show, Quizz.
