A few MLB nuggets every morning of the season ...Padres 4, Astros 0 Several great pitching performances yesterday, but outside of Kerry Wood and Eric Gagne, Jake Peavy was once again the best. 7 IP, 3 H, 0 ER. It's too easy for him ... he even leads the team in RBI's with a 4th inning 2-run single to help his cause. One of a few pitchers in baseball worth the price of admission by themselves.
Dodgers 5, Giants 0 And the sucking begins. Who will win first - O's or Giants? I'd say it was an impressive out for Brad Penny, but this is a lineup that has Randy Winn in the 3-spot and Bengie Molina at clean-up.
Mariners 5, Rangers 2 Kevin Millwood pitched fairly well - maybe it was that aggressive offseason boxing routine (no, not really) - but the acquisition of Erik Bedard pays off early for Seattle. Bad news: Ichiro begins hitless.
Nats 11, Phillies 6 Speaking of bad bullpens, enjoy Tom Gordon as closer for the time being. Flash actually made Kerry Wood look good. 0.1 IP, 4 H, 5 ER. Ladies and Gentleman, your 2-0 undefeated, division leading Washington Nationals.
Craziest game of the day: Pirates 12, Braves 11 (11) Neither bullpen was remotely interested in closing this game out. Xavier Nady is your NL HR leader this morning after a 4-for-7, 2 HR, 4 RBI night. The Bravos used nine pitchers which makes today's off day incredibly useful. Not for Braves fans, however, not exactly the start they were looking for.
