If You Don't Think This Is Hard, Just Try It Yourself. You Can't Do It. Jarron Gilbert Jumps Out Of A Pool...

...And into the NFL.

With the 2009 NFL Combine just around the corner, scouts will be focused on certain players...and surpri  sed by others. Obviously draft prospects from smaller schools don't garner the same attention as their marquee counterparts.

But some players don't need prime time TV games to prove their worth. Not when there's YouTube. High-school standout Sam McGuffie pulled in over 2.8 million views with his McGuffie Mixtape. Enter Jarron Gilbert of San Jose State. The versatile defensive standout played both DE and DT for the Spartans. What's more impressive are his 22 tackles for a loss in 2008...the most of any player in the DIV-1A. The 6'5", 280-lber made heads turn at the East-West Shrine game. And while he isn't listed on any "Top 5" defensive lineman lists...yet...he may be gaining much needed momentum going into the NFL Combine.

This video is no cinematic thriller by any means. But with regard to his physical abilities, there is some degree of lucidity achieved by jumping out of a swimming pool. If you've never tried it...well, I bet you couldn't...unless, of course, you can squat 635 lbs and dead lift 655 lbs.

Just the kind of thing he'll be able to put on display at the NFL Combine. This ought to be good.

Raider_Dave: I agree with you somewhat. I wouldn't go as far as saying 'guaranteed'. Dustin Keller is an example of raising your stock during the Combine with his performances (lifting and agility), and proving that his strength isn't World's Strongest Man-type hype. Although, I guess I'd have to come up with another DL to compare apples to apples.

you are simply right

Just in the pool?

Does it count if you do this out of a plastic kids pool?  Cause I totally did that before...granted the water was a foot and a half deep, but the accomplishment still stands.

Keep it down, you do know the Lions hold the #1 pick right?

It could be the much overhyped combine that gives this kid the exposure he needs.  He has some great stats, but so did Vernon Gholston.  And if there is one thing we know about workout warriors, it is guaranteed that someone will take a flyer on that kind of player.

Careful young man that lady reading the book with the nice tan and I'm a little teapot towel is a reporter for Sports Illustrated and she's doing a story on steroid use by those staying at Super 8 Motels!
