From 1999-2001, the Warriors kind of sucked. Actually, they had been sucking for a long time at that point. But anyway, my point is that my buddies and I had to adopt a new team to root for. Naturally, the Sacramento Kings were an easy choice. Featuring Chris Webber, Peja Stojakovic and some pothead dribbling fiend who got kicked out of the University of Florida (that would be Jason Williams), this team was awesome to watch. They were the Phoenix Suns before the Phoenix Suns.
But there was little question that Jason Williams was by far the most exciting player on the team. He was like a combination of Pete Maravich and the best streetballer from Venice Beach all rolled into one. I still talk about some of the ridiculous passes he made during his time in SacTown.
But after a 10-year career, Williams is finally hanging them up. You probably recall that he tapered his game down over the years and ultimately played a key role on Miami's 2006 NBA Championship squad.
In celebration of Williams, here's one of a litany of tribute videos featuring the most ridiculous plays of his career.
By the way, I'm pretty sure most people know this, but Williams and Randy Moss were good friends growing up and played high school basketball together. Here's the old Nike ad featuring the two West Virginia products.
By the way, if you're looking for the famous behind the back elbow pass, it's in this highlight clip. We'll miss you, White Chocolate.
