The Days of Our Mets drama continued Tuesday night with Jerry Manuel showing some of the fire Willie Randolph was accused of lacking. After a string of disputable calls at home plate by umpire Brian Runge, Carlos Beltran and Manuel lost their cool. That, or they just didn't want to stick around for the Mets embarrassing 11-0 loss to baseball's worst team.
Naturally, Runge felt the need to be confrontational and it's hard to tell from this fan video, but from other pictures it looks like the home plate umpire bumped Manuel first.
"I thought that Mr. Runge was kind of baiting Carlos, that's how I saw it, I could be wrong. But I wanted to make sure it was OK. It got a little heated, and you saw what happened."There's that gangsta' we've been waiting for. You know, he might not fix the Mets mess, but I do enjoy the Ozzie Guillen-like fire that comes from Manuel. Hopefully GM Omar Minaya gives him the rest of the year as these things take time.
Losing 11-0 to the Mariners, however, is unacceptable at any point. What a mess. Mariners 11, Mets 0

Welcome Back to Pittsburgh The last time the Yankees traveled to Pittsburgh, Bill Mazeroski hit a home run to give the Pirates the 1960 World Series. Tuesday night, the Bucs picked up where they left off and crushed the Pinstripes. Maybe all the Pirates need are some fans to show up? The third largest crowd in PNC Park history saw their team drive in 12 runs on 19 hits. Pirates 12, Yankees 5
More Maple Bat Trouble Check out the video here of umpire Brian O'Nora getting drilled in the head with a broked head of another spliced maple bat. When is something going to be done? If the other end of the bat had hit O'Nora, who knows what would have happened.
Must Watch Baseball Tonight OK, so it's not a Stanley Cup Game 7, but you have to tune into the College World Series final tonight. Fresno State racked up 19 runs last night in what I thought was a wildly entertaining game. That's a lot of pings. You rarely see this much intensity on every pitch in the MLB World Series.
