When you think back on all the great players (not necessarily great at the pro level) that have played at Kentucky - Dan Issel, Pat Riley, Sam Bowie, Ron Mercer, Jamal Mashburn, Kenny Walker, Tayshaun Prince, Antoine Walker - you would assume that one of them would have his name permanently etched into the school's history for most points in a single game by a Kentucky player. And in fact, Issel does. Or did.

That's because last Jodie Meeks, one of the more underrated guards in America, went absolutely nuts against No. 24 Tennessee, torching them for a school record 54 points in a surprisingly easy 90-72. Meeks also hit a school record 10 3-pointers in the game as well. He was, quite simply, unguardable.

Even funnier, Meeks singlehandedly scored more points than 5 other NCAA teams on Tuesday night, and matched the total output of two other teams.

Well, you know what they say, "The Meeks shall inherit the earth." Thank you, I'll be here all week.

Sometimes it's easy for a player or school to be underrated or unheralded when you have the name Kentucky on your jersey and lose early to VMI at home.  Just glad to see Wildcats are having a decent season once again.

He had a great game. The test will be the very next game. Now that he is known, the defense will not be the same and he will truly have his work cut out for him.

He's the 5th leading scorer in the country.  Bruce Pearl knew exactly who he was before the game.  Meeks is doing great this year, but it is a tremendous help that Patrick Patterson is down low.  It forces teams to pick your poison.
As for the next game, its against Georgia...in Jodie's home state.....he will probably go for about 25 or so.  This is the third time this season that Meeks has scored 39 points or more....needless to say...Tennessee was far and away the best of the 3 opponents.

I am not doubting him nor am I down on him. I was just noting that he seems to have let downs after big games. He had 39 at VMI and 19 the next game against UNC...Kansas State 37, next game at W.Virgina he had 19....Tenn. St 32 next game FAU he had 18. Not bad games at all. He is having a break out year and he is humble, a refreshing virtue.

That was an AMAZING game by Jodie Meeks last night!  Anyone who watched it like I did seen that he was in a zone and couldn't be stopped.  The SEC needs to beware about what happened last night and start preparing for games of 30+ points on a regular basis!  Anytime you eclipse Dan Issel on anything in UK basketball history, you have accomplished something!

Very happy to see Meeks get his game going.  Hurt most of his college career, to finally see his full potential come to the front was amazing.  Along with Patterson, the UK team does seem to be coming around to the team coach Gillespie promise when he took the position.  If UK can ever get a handle on their turnover problem, watch out in March.
