Joe Morgan Is Easily Impressed By Jose Reyes
Breaking News: You Must Run Around the Bases After Hitting A Home Run

I didn't bother watching any Sunday Night Baseball. Two New York teams plus Jon Miller and Joe Morgan was a little too much for me.

Fortunately, I didn't miss this classic Joe Morgan comment. In fact, we should go ahead and make this a weekly feature every Monday.

After Jose Reyes hit a home run, Morgan drooled over the replay with this praise:
"You know what I like about that, he ran around the bases. He hit it, and he proceeded to go around the bases."
As Brian Powell points out, Reyes was obligated to do this:
According to Rule 6.09(d) of the Official Major League rule book....

(d) A fair ball passes over a fence or into the stands at a distance from home base of 250 feet or more. Such hit entitles the batter to a home run when he shall have touched all bases legally. A fair fly ball that passes out of the playing field at a point less than 250 feet from home base shall entitle the batter to advance to second base only;
Now, of course, I understand what Morgan meant. He appreciated Reyes swiftness with with he completed his home run in relation to say, a Manny Ramirez stroll through the park.

But I think we all know that if Reyes played second base, Morgan would have found this offensive in some way, by showing up the rest of the league with his speed.

Know what I like about Reyes, is that he uses his glove for defense.

You know what I like about Reyes?  He plays baseball.  I mean he really is a baseball player.  He comes to the park every day to play baseball.  He uses all the tools a baseball player has at his disposal.  He can use his bat at the plate, his glove in the field and his legs on the basepaths.

Normally I am not a big fan of Joe Morgan, but I like a commentator that states how baseball should be played.  I can't stand idiots like Manny Ramirez and Alfonso Soriano who stand and watch the ball after they hit it.  Most of the time Manny gets a single when it should be a double because he thought the ball was going out of the park.

So what about the douche pitchers that scream and pump their fist into the air after a strikeout?  What do you think about them?  There's no difference, and that happens a lot more than admiring home runs or flipping bats.
I don't mind that...and that isn't showing up the batter.  That is just celebrating.  Admiring home runs and flipping bats are showing up the pitcher.  If the batter hits a deep ball and hustles around the bases and then the ball goes over the fence, there is nothing wrong with him pumping his fist in celebration.  That is the same as the pitcher pumping his fist after a strikeout.

That's your opinion.  There should be no showing up anyone...pitchers should pitch...batters should hit.

The pitcher got showed up when the hitter hit one out of the park, not when the hitter decides to take a lil time to admire it.  If you don't want a hitter admiring his home run, don't give it up.  Its that simple.
