Joe Torre is clearly resigned to the fact George Steinbrenner wasn't lying with his latest ultimatum. Judging from Joe's post game interview, just small portion above, Torre seems to be more than OK with that.
Good for him, one of the best managers in baseball doesn't deserve to be fall guy for a team that hasn't been built well, and whose star players didn't deliver for the third straight year in clutch situations. Yes, even Jeter went 3-17 this postseason.
Rumors of the boss eyeing Tony LaRussa have already surfaced. Whether it's him, which I doubt, Joe Girardi or Don Mattingly, none will have any success with the AARP pitching staff. Sadly, the trouble really starts at the top, but I doubt George will fire himself. As a small consolation, Brian Cashman should go too.
Should Steinbrenner and the Yankees move on? If so will they do any better than Torre?
