Who is John Tavares?  Tavares is 18 yrs. old and currently is the center for the Oshawa Generals in the OHL.  He finished last season's 59 games  with 118 points (40 goals).  Rumors are that he will go #1 in the 2009 NHL Draft.  Tavares was selected to be a part of Team Canada in the World Junior Hockey Championship Tournament where Canada is hosting teams from ten different countries.

Tavares stole the spotlight earlier this week when in an exhibition game against Slovakia, he scored an amazing "juggling" goal.  Watch the video to see his fancy stick work to put the puck past Slovakia's goalie.  This is a highlight goal on any hockey level!

Team Canada, lead by Captain Thomas Hickey (#4 overall draft pick to LA Kings in 2007, currently a Seattle Thunderbird), is going for their fifth straight gold medal in this year's World Junior Championship Tournament which began on Dec. 26 and runs through Jan. 5, 2009.  The NHL Network will have coverage of the tournament.

He just barely missed being eligible last draft. I would love it if the Kings were to grab him, but I am glad they probably won't be in the running.

Hopefully, he adjusts better than Stamkos.
