I admittedly didn't watch any of yesterday's playoff baseball action. I'm, uh, shall we say, waiting for next year. So I missed that supposedly controversial Jason Varitek fumble which has somehow gone unmentioned in these parts, but the good news is that I wasn't subjected to Craig Sager's bright orange suit all night.
Yes, a bright orange pumpkin suit.
I wish Sager would have been in attendance last week in Wrigley, for his outfit could have been a reasonable excuse. It didn't bother the Boston Red Sox Monday night, and Jonathan Papelbon and crew partied in style. Most notably, Paps did what I think everyone would wanted to do: trash Sager's jacket with champagne.
there is no controversy on the varitek "fumble". he chased the runner with ball in hand. put the ball in his glove. tagged the runner. tag came off the runner as he stumbled, and when his glove hit the ground, ball popped out. tag was made. no controversy.
Yeah i have to be honest here. There was pretty much no controversy in my mind either. Nor does there seem to be much talk over the internet today about it. It definitely seemed to be the right call.

Papelbon cracks me up. He's always there to do his job when it matters, but as soon as the game is over he's like a kid again. I can't help but like the guy for that.
