At the rate this fairly tale story is going, it might be worth placing some odds on the Texas Rangers winning the pennant. That may be all that's left for Josh Hamilton's comeback story.
Wednesday night he added another notable achievement to his amazing season.
Hamilton, leading the majors in RBI's, faced off against the Angels Francisco Rodriguez who leads everyone in saves and breaking batters' knees. Trailing by one run with Michael Young on base, Hamilton did was few ever do against K-Rod: sent a walk-off home run over the right field wall.
That's now 89 RBI's in 89 games for Hamilton, who was recently voted into the AL All-Star starting lineup. Might as well chalk up a Home Run Derby title and inevitably the Summer Classic's MVP.
Don't Mess with the Johan At least not when he's pitching against the Giants. Johan Santana only pitched five innings because of a rain delay, but it was an effort the Metropolitans would like to see on a more consistent basis: 5 IP, 0 ER, 3 H, 5 K. Mets 5, Giants 0
Brad Lidge Bests Pujols This Time We all know what started the one year decline of Phillies closer Brad Lidge: He got Albert Pujowned in the 2005 playoffs and just this season, he's fully recovered. With a man on base, and Pujols as the tying run at the plate, Lidge got a small piece of revenge. Circumstances were slightly less important, but whatever, you know it meant a lot for Lidge to force the Cardinals slugger to pop-out a record a big save. Phillies 4, Cards 2
Open ended question for the morning: Who's the one player you want (reasonably) your team to acquire before the trade deadline?
No one was happier to see the ball leave the yard than Bobby Thigpen because the way K-Rod is going the saves record will be broken by the end of August.
