Arnold Palmer ripped one down the middle at the 1st to begin the 2008 Masters Tournament in appropriate fashion. As always, it's a good sign when the ceremonial first drive doesn't hit a spectator.
Ian Poulter generated the first roar of the day, taking the lead with his hole-in-one on the 16th. A little disappointed Ian didn't opt for his customary pink pants, but I suspect the powers that be at Augusta National were pleased.
Tiger Woods really had only one highlight on the afternoon, but it typically generated the biggest cheer. This chip-in eagle on the 15th got Eldrick back to even par, four strokes behind the lead.
Four strokes ahead of Tiger sit Justin Rose and Trevor Immelman. The two traveled to Augusta a few weeks ago together and their visit appears to have paid off. Rose, as you probably well know, had lead the Masters three times after Round 1 in the last five years.
