Katie Hoff, Michael Phelps Breaks 400 IM World Records At US Swimming Olympic Trials
Get Ready For A Heavy Dose Of The New Hoff This Summer
>7 days ago
Because there's simply nothing more exhilarating than watching women in one piece swimming outfits briskly move about a pool, we bring you the lovely Katie Hoff setting a new world record in the 400 Individual Medley.
Is it ever noteworthy anymore when swimming records are broken? It seems that with every new major event, they build new pools that are meant to have all records shattered and remind us that swimming is fun to watch for two weeks every four years. Plus there are these new shark skin suits that have people flying through the water.
Hoff, who had held the 400 IM world record until March, reclaimed her crown with a time of 4:31.12, a full .34 better than the previous record holder, Stephanie Rice of Australia. I think it's safe to assume that one of these two swimmers will beat the record again in Beijing where we can only assume the pool has been built to perfect record breaking conditions. That, or it will be filled with pollution. One or the other.
The World Record Machine, Michael Phelps, also broke his own mark in the 400 IM which is, well, just another day in the life. Phelps could very well qualifying to the Olympics in a staggering 12 events which is likely to bring up 'Best Ever Athlete' discussion next month. Oh joy.
Oh, and we're putting the early odds on the lovely Miss Hoff to be the female Olympic who makes out the best in endorsements. We think you'll enjoy her.
