Kimbo Slice Fight vs James Thompson
Kimbo's Got A Ways To Go
READ MORE:

Here's the third and final round of the Kimbo Slice/James Thompson fight.

Although I'm not exactly a hardcore fan of MMA, I do watch it fairly regularly. And one thing was pretty clear: Kimbo isn't ready yet to go up against anyone decent.

I think most people who follow MMA at all already knew that, but this fight confirmed it.

Thompson took Kimbo out of his usual style, which is, uh, punching a lot? I'm not sure Kimbo has a style. After all, his style was listed as "brawler" on the CBS prefight introduction.

There was also some serious controversy about how the second round ended, which you can see here. Some people, including fighter Brett Rogers, say Kimbo tapped out as Thompson rained elbows down on Kimbo's head. But Frank Shamrock, one of the announcers, said that Kimbo was letting the ref know he was all right to keep going. Thompson also said he never thought Slice tried to tap out either.

I can't say, except that it appeared Kimbo was in an awful lot of trouble at the end of the 2nd round. The bell clearly saved him.

Thompson wasn't even supposed to make this much of a fight, so the simple truth is Kimbo better keep training. His defense is pretty poor, and he clearly had almost no clue what to do when he was on the ground.

I'm always hesitant to say Kimbo would "get destroyed" if he faced any of the top competition in UFC, as one punch can win a fight. But it's clear that Kimbo has a long way to go before he's worthy of the already ridiculous hype he's gotten thus far.

It's quite simple, really...

Kimbo's lone loss is to a Boston police officer, a guy named Gannon. He made ONE appearance in the UFC, losing to Brandon Lee Hinkle. And that was Hinkle's ONLY win in the Octagon.

SO.... Kimbo has already lost to a guy who lost his only UFC fight... to another guy who never beat anyone else in the UFC. If that doesn't tell you that you could scrape the bottom of the UFC's heavyweight division and any of them could crush Kimbo, then I don't know what else you need...

Kimbo couldn't even hang with most UFC middleweights... any respectable Light Heavyweight would destroy him... put him in the octagon with other guys his size (Heavyweights), and he could quite possibly leave the place in a stretcher. He's huge, he's strong, but his training is vastly inferior thus far, not to mention his conditioning.

CBS should NEVER, I repeat, NEVER carry another MMA bout.  Please don't, I beg.  MMA will end up going the way of boxing and no one wants that.  Why, you say?  Most fights were ended way too soon, very few fights were allowed to go to the mat for any period of time, anouncing was to be desired, and I got a feeling that the "G" for the national audience.  Terrible, just terrible.

It's a good thing the announcer they brought aboard was none other than the great Gus Johnson.  The man could make a game of checkers sound like the Super Bowl.

Gus Johnson = National Hero.

My favorite announcer ever.

Slice is mostly BS hype. He showed the whole nation during his fight with Thompson just how much BS he is. Thompson isn't even considered in the top twenty heavyweights in the UFC and I'm willing to say he wouldn't rank in the new MMA league that took over from Pride, in Japan either. Pit him against somebody of the caliber of Kongo, Arlovski, Gonzaga, or Silva and Kimbo will go down fairly quick. Of course watching the fight with Thompson made me wonder if the ref was told to err overly for Thompson's health as the stoppage was a little quick. One clean punch and then the plug was pulled as he was backing away, defending??? Come on XE, give me a break!!!!

You're not wrong... the entire event was a joke. Please don't base your opinions of MMA on what you saw there. Watch a real event, and hopefully you get a better idea of what it's all about.
