Dana White was asked about Kimbo Slice after UFC 90 on Saturday, and made some interesting comments:
"What's he done other than get 10 million hits on YouTube, what's he done to deserve to be in the UFC? Nothing. I don't consider him a real athlete. He won't win The Ultimate Fighter. The offer's out there if he wants to take it, but he won't win it."
White has been adamently against the Kimbo Slice experiment in EliteXC, and has had harsh words for Kimbo from the beginning. That didn't stop here. Dana DID leave the door open to the possibility of Kimbo in the UFC, but made it clear that not only would Kimbo have to earn his way into the UFC through the hit reality shoe The Ultimate Fighter, but also that he didn't think Kimbo would have a chance at winning. It would make sense that Kimbo wouldn't have much of a chance to win. After all, Seth Petruzelli, the fighter who destroyed him in EliteXC was on the show, and he didn't win either.
It would be nice to see how Kimbo could do against a slate of semi-legit fighters, but it's doubtful that he would even try. Kimbo's modus operandi thus far has been to follow the money. Not many people believe that he's truly in the business because he wants to be a great fighter. If he is, then he should take advantage of Dana White's invitation. When asked if he would put a heavyweight show together just for Kimbo, White responded with "We might do that."
The main thing that would prevent Kimbo from calling Dana's bluff on this one is the money. The winner of the reality show gets a $100,000 contract with the UFC. Kimbo was paid 5 times that amount for his loss to Petruzelli. Moving to the UFC would result in a huge pay cut for Kimbo for a considerable amount of time, and it's highly likely that he would never match the paydays that he was receiving from EliteXC, even if he were to appear on and win the show.
The next season of TUF is currently scheduled to feature middleweights, and will be in a "USA Vs UK" format. Michael Bisping will coach the UK team, and the winner of the fight between Dan Henderson and Rich Franklin in January at UFC 93 will coach the American team.
