LSU Fans' Sign Demands More Civil War, Remain Shockingly Racist
This Seems To Be In Poor Taste

I was initially hesitant to post on this, even though it's been floating around since last night, but any opportunity to make fun of LSU I've decided has to be taken advantage of.

As you can see in the picture above you, LSU baseball fans decided to come up with an interesting sign during their Super Regional showdown against UC-Irvine. I think "Go Tigers" might have been more appropriate, but that's just me.

As With Leather points out:
The Civil War only killed 600,000 Americans. Why couldn't the Union and Confederacy put another 1.2 million lives on the line for the fans? How can you disagree with that?
No one could possibly disagree with that. You just might also remember that slavery was a big part of the Civil War, so yeah, the sign is bad on multiple levels.

By the way, LSU made the College World Series, so you can expect to see a few more of these gems in the coming days. 3/1 odds one of the future signs uses the term "tar baby."

By the way, I don't want to call all LSU fans racist. I mean, that would be unfair. But then I remembered that in addition to this rather droll sign, there was also a video of a few LSU fans down at the National Championship football game from earlier this year. Let's let them give you a taste of what LSU fans are really like (very NSFW everyone).

Yes sir, I know I'd be proud to be an LSU student or alum. And by proud, I mean ashamed beyond belief for the rest of my life.

And people wonder why SEC fans are stereotyped as they are?

Someone should have asked LSU fan why they have such a prestigious university and yet they're among the bottom 5 states in literacy.

Of course, that's a lot of big words I used right there so you might have to simplify it some.

I GOTTA defend my South here: The Civil War was not really all about slavery:  South was paying all the taxes through tariffs (no income tax then) and the north was deriving all the benefits. Southern leaders like Jeff Davis and Robert E. Lee actually believed that they were getting out because of the federal government was growing too powerful and centralized.  2 little known politically incorrect facts: There were actually more anti-slavery societies in the South than the North and there were free blacks in the South who owned slaves.  99% of the CSA soldiers owned one or fewer slaves.  The Emancipation Proclamation brought the slavery issue to the forefront of the war to give the moral impetus to justify the losses the Union was taking in lives (The right to live off a South paying all your income tax wasn't selling as well as a moral compass after Manassas, Fredericksburg, and Gettysburg).

Now I doubt this drunken ass-head from LSU knows ANY of that, nor does he know his state's biggest expense in the post-civil war era was on prosthetic arms and legs.  LSU and the U of Alabama lead the nation in "sidewalk alumni".  These are people who never actually went to the schools or flunked out of them yet pull for the teams anyway and attend the games.  Needless to say probably, but men like Jeff Davis and Robert E. Lee, who were otherwise honorable men fighting for what history now adjudges to be the wrong side, would have had NOTHING in common with this very typical sign-wielding, bone-headed LSU fan.  It's okay to hate LSU fan, Alabama fan, and even Ole Miss fan, but don't assume the rest of us down here in SEC and C-USA country are like them.

Listen, this chick obviously knew she was about to stir up a hornets nest. For people who say they are shocked that this is still happening in this day and age are kidding themselves. Where do you live? I want to move to that island. I am sure the best place to go to ask about New Orleans soci-economic status is to a bunch of drunk tailgaters before a game. Do you think they even care about anything else at that moment except "brew me dude!" and "Let the tiger out into the opposing team's tunnel!"? Notice how she even started getting defensive there at the end? She knew exactly what she was going to get out of these alumni frat punks and she got it alright...

I know of these "sidewalk alumni" you speak of, especially from Alabama.  Those people are certifiably insane.

...now if I could only guess who PQ'd all these posts?

I don't understand the misrepresentation.  One guy used the "N" word.  Another guy completely stereotyped "those people", and yet another guy just babbled on about "them" needing to get jobs and stop selling drugs..  Of course it was a setup..  She knew what kind of response she was going to get...  But these guys delivered!  They came through!  They represented themselves very well..  All of them decked out in LSU purple and gold..  And I also don't understand what was taken out of context?  They answered the question that she asked, and kept on answering, and answering..  All the while using racially insensitive language as though it was acceptable and normal.

I'm not naive enough to believe that these thoughts and beliefs are not still around.  I also believe that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, however archaic, outdated, and foolish it may be (my opinion).

But misrepresented and out of context are two things that I do not see in this video.

The LSU sidewalk alumni are all just ridiculous drunks wearing shoes stained with vomit.

Chach don't do the PQ: It's kinda lame.  Posting a massive insult-filled swipe, yeah, now that'd be Chach...

If LSU fan was gonna PQ the blasts, he should have PQ'ed mine as it was  roughest one on him --Of course, it took more reading and one suspects that is what saved it ( LSU fan aint got much of that there book larnin' ).

Maybe I should start a blog called "Blog IQ." I think I'd give this about an 82.

The sign was a tongue-in-cheek response to the opposing coach of UC Irvine, Mike Gillespie, who said earlier that week that in comparison to LSU fans, Nebraska fans (who his team had just defeated in the regional) knew that the "Civil War was over." It was a comment that got a lot of play in LSU circles before their series. Radio shows, blogs, message forums all mentioned it and discussed it. Hence, some fans decided to poke fun at him.

Context is fun and even useful when you're aware of it.

Funny, I've been to numerous games at Alex Box and never seen one. Never heard of one either. I wonder if this one is somehow related to Mike Gillespie's comments the week before? Naw, MUST BE a coincidence.

Obviously, the idiots on this post have no idea what prompted the sign.  It had nothing to do with racism, but rather was a response to the idiotic comment made by the UCI coach which stereotyped all LSU fans...see the link below:

I thank you for finding the actual interview for all to see to straighten out the photo with the guy holding the sign. It should really help all of these people who obviously bought the "Jump to Conclusions" matt that Dom from Office Space created. As far as the video post goes, well, read my previous post...
