The Oregon Ducks laid an egg in their first game of the year. Or, as the Oregon Statesman Journal said, they were punchless.



Well, almost.

Oregon running back LeGarrette Blount decided to cold-cock Byron Hout of Boise State after the game, presumably because Blount was angry about being forced to play on that craptastic blue piece of s*** that Boise State calls a field. The punch is at the 35 second mark.



Something tells me Blount may be suspended for a few games. Or begin an MMA career.


UPDATE: In this second video below, it looks like Hout said something to Blount. I'm not siding with anyone here, just pointing out that we'll likely hear a lot more about this in the near future.

Just talked to my friend Anwon Murray(#31 Boise State) on facebook and Blount made a whole bunch of blue enemies tonight. That cheap shot was way uncalled for and even after that he continued to make himself look like psycho. He should be admitted into anger management classes.

Too bad Blount didn't show that much fight during the game or the Ducks might have won the game. Also, Blount has now moved to the top of the Raiders and Bengals draft boards.

I'm glad you added that last bit, because the AP story said that it was not one-sided at all.  Even the Boise State head coach was getting after his player for starting sh*t (right before the punch).  I admit that Blount should have been the bigger man, but the Boise State player was not innocent.

I'm starting to side with the opposite side, that it wasn't a sucker punch.  Stupid, yes, but Hout started it and shouldn't have opened his mouth (watch the coach push his own player, likely telling him to shut up so he didn't start exactly what his big mouth started).  Blount should have controlled himself, but I know losing those types of big games and then having the winner rub it in your face is EXTREMELY hard to keep a level head about.

Coach Peterson is pretty no nonsense I would not be shocked if he disciplined his player as well, but Kelly will also have to lay  down the law.  Blount and Dwyer are the top 2 power back prospects in the NCAA but he just cost himself about 2 rounds and big $$$$.

can you say ROID RAGE?     and who cares if someone was rubbing it in your face, you have to be a man.and try harder next time.   now he has a crap reputation and  i expext to oon see a "im very sorry for my actions" type of press conferences.   he should have to sit out the rest of the season!!!

Take it for what it's worth but according to Mike and Mike this morning, Blount had apparently done some serious trash talking before the game about how Oregon was going to whip up on Boise State.  I would guess that the Boise State player was rubbing a little salt into the wound after Boise State completely dominated Oregon and Blount retaliated with the sucker punch.  It was a classless move on Blount's part and one that will without a doubt see him suspended, quite possibly for along time.  With games upcoming against Purdue, Utah and California and an offense that looked terrible in there opener, Oregon is going to be in trouble without there leading rusher.

So when did the sucker punch become a staple in a man's arsenal?  I swear that is all you see in fights currently and it appears normal as well as encouraged.  Regardless of the circumstances, you are a punk, bitch, coward.....insert your emasculating term and that is what you are if you sucker punch anyone. 

Shut your mouth and let your play do the talking.  If you don't know how this is done or have forgotten how it is done, please see Barry Sanders.  Played the game, scored a touchdown and flipped the ball to the ref and went about his business as he had done it a thousand times.

One punch knockdown was impressive?!?!? How hard is it to knock someone out with a sucker punch? Worked as a bouncer for 3 years, and saw more sucker punches than people with the guts to face someone square up.

Talking trash before the game is different than after the game. You won, congrats now go celebrate in a sportsmanlike manner in your locker room. It seems like some people are turning a blind eye to the unsportsmanlike act Hout did. In the second replay it looks like Hout touched Blount but it only shows the end of that. You rub it in like that youre gonna start something. And if thats the case then I dont blame him. The losing team in these situations always is the more aggressive one and Hout made a mistake by being a douche and rubbing it in.

Blount even tried to go after a fan down the tunnel after all of that....He had to be held back by an assistant coach-Scott Frost and some other people....    God this season is going to be great

Well it looks like this whole "Team hand shake before the game for sportsmanship" is starting off well.

Yes it was stupid and unsportsmanlike on the part of the Boise lineman; but, when is a punch ever right in sports other than boxing or MMA?

I'll just say this...when your opponent gives you his jaw and offers no defense for a punch, and you only knock him down (not out), you have absolutely no punch whatsoever.  That is one Oregon <something that rhymes with "duck"> player that had better get used to busing tables at golden corral, because he won't be playing football anymore, and he sure as hell won't be a boxer.

Not to defend him, but the guy he punched definitely taunted him, and got what was coming. Blount just couldn't handle going 8 for -5 yds AND being taunted........over the edge.

I disagree with throwing him under the bus without mentioning Hout. If you watched First Take this morning on ESPN2 they showed you more of the clip and Hout went OUT OF HIS WAY and tapped Blount on the shoulder to make sure this kid heard what he had to say. Let's talk about unsportsmanlike when you have a kid going "nanny nanny boo boo" and going OUT OF HIS WAY to do that. Its an aggressive sport with a lot of testosterone and he even said sorry immediately after the game in the locker room the kid doesnt isnt the only one in the wrong yet people are only putting him on the chopping block and its ridiculous.

Pure punk move. Blount ran his mouth before the game saying that Oregon owed Boise an A$$ whoopin. I am sure that Hout said hey how about that A$$ whoopin we were suppose to get. After his performance Blount should have just walked to the locker room with his head down and tried to redeem his self next game. Instead he will be watching that  game from the sidelines.

I wasn't casting judgment on anything but a lame excuse for a right cross.  With Blount's history of trouble (including previous suspension), and you throw this on top of it, the only way he plays football again is for a program that doesn't care about character.   That said,  I think the BSU kid was absolutely wrong...take your win and be a gentleman.  I despise taunting, even the BS heckling on this site.  My point had less to do with behavior and everything to do with someone who can't throw a punch.

I'm not defending the cheap shot, but the Boise State player who went out of his way to taunt the Oregon player sort of deserved it. The punch is clearly an overreaction and he needs to control himself, but the taunter was being a douche and brought upon himself.

Moral of the story: don't be a douche. Also don't punch people in the face for being a douche.

It's not like Blount threw the punch while facing the guy down. He waited til he turned to walk away.

Plus, it's not like Blount threw the punch and was like, Sorry I lost my cool let's get out of here. He fought security and his own teammates the ENTIRE WAY back to the locker room. He's got major rage issues. Trash talking happens. It's bush league, but talk back or get in the guys face, don't sucker punch the dude.

Thats pregame talk. It happens in every sport. What doesnt happen is some punk ass boise state player thinking he can go out of his way to rub the game in someones face. Your boy deserved to get punched and dont even act like if someone did the same thing to your player you wouldnt be saying "knock that punk out" cause you would be saying that. Everyone does. Blount actually did it. Hout should have gone to the locker room and let his field play speak for itself rather than taunt another player like he did. You should be outraged at the Boise State player as much as the Oregon player.

i feel no remorse for  Blount..he is a idiot and is what gives college football players a bad name...he not only punched the player on Boise State but also punched one of his teammates and then tried going after fans too...then when he was interviewed said it would never happen again.....YEAH RIGHT!!!! he needs to be kicked off the team for a long time if not all together for that little display...

Not good by  Blount plus after this he will be suspended and they are saying(NCAA) that he will not be drafted. WOW!!! Career over already by being stupid and not controling his emotions. Which was tauted by the other player I might say. Very Very Sad

Sorry, I wasn't calling you out or anything. Actually I'm glad you posted it because that's a great example of what a lot of people are going to pay attention to and ignore the rest of the confrontation.  Just to get it straight, I'm definitely not defending Blount and his subsequent behavior, but I don't want people to just ignore the rest of the story and make Blount out to be some evil rogue who was looking for trouble at that point without any goading from Hout

so pre game talk is ok... i get it... with that philosophy Hout would have been in full right if he approached Blount B4 the game and punched him ...ahhh ok. Your right Hout was totally out of line for letting Blount know that he couldn't back up his words on the field. Yup great KO punch when he wasn't looking...real classy. Actually I would tell my players to not write a check your a$$ cant handle. If you run your mouth in the media you open the door for opposing players to call you on it. Punching someone when they are not looking is never ok... at least be a man and do it face to face not when he is turned away.
