Lou Holtz Kansas Pep Talk vs Missouri, Insults Toledo in the Process

Oh the irony of Lou Holtz giving a pep talk as if he were Mark Mangino. There could not be two more opposite college football personalities. Ok, maybe Anthony Morelli and Tim Tebow, but you get the point.

Good speech by Lou, but it was more story time than anything. Not what we needed with the turkey putting us to sleep as is. Lou did make a funny, however when discussing the border war between Michigan and Ohio over Toledo:
"Only twice have states gone to war with one another. One of them was Ohio and Michigan, where they had a boundary dispute over Toledo. That history doesn’t record who won the war, but we have to assume Michigan did, because nobody would fight to keep Toledo."
He also told us the tale of the Missouri-Kansas border war which was apparently quite gruesome. Fascinating really. We can assume many peace symbols will be returned Saturday night with only one finger. Can't wait ... and if all goes well for the Jayhawks that one finger might not be the one you'd expect.

I have come to really like Lou Holtz. I loathed the man when he coached at Notre Dame, but his work on ESPN and the quotes from him I've learned here on the Q make me think I may have been blinded by my ND hatred to see what an entertaining guy he is.

I hate him even more. The man sounds like he's got one foot in the grave, and it really makes me sick to hear his voice.

I think his talks (Dropped 'Pep' on purpose) are ridiculous, stupid attempts to give him personality. The man is boring and particularly in this case (KU-MU) has no knowledge of either team or the rivalry involved. The game is being played in KC, were most of the population has personal ties to either KU or MU. We live, work and play beside eachother and you are either one or the other. There is no option to not choose a side. Monday will be a day when people call in sick because they can't face coworkers. Kids will fake illness to avoid school friends and many people will be on suicide watch.

This happens when both teams suck, which has been through most of history. Not November 24th, now it is a national stage and likely to be for a #1 ranking and the inside track to a BCS Championship game. Neither KU or MU has even tasted a Big 12 North Championship in football.

This heated rivalry happens in everything and every sport. You shold see the Golf Teams go at eachother. Reminds you of a Muhamad Ali pre fight press conference.
