Lou Piniella And Ozzie Guillen Rap For Cubs, White Sox Series

Possibly The Greatest Commercial Ever
by 100%InjuryRate

I'm sure most of you can understand why the weekend White Sox/Cubs tilt was highly anticipated. It features crosstown rivals and both teams are in 1st place in their divisions. That always makes for entertaining baseball.

But perhaps even more anticipated than the actual games was this commercial, which made its debut today. It features Piniella and Guillen in a rap battle for the hearts of Chicago's fans. Or to sell cars. One or the other.

Personally, I prefer Ozzie's heavily accented 50 Cent style tough guy rap to Lou's more laid back approach.

But hey, Lou's squad put up 9 runs in the 4th today, so he's obviously doing something right. Although it probably isn't his rapping.

Contrary to what Chicagoans and the sheep media wants us to believe, this series wasn't highly anticipated at all.  Most of us outside of the situation either don't care or hate the Cubs or even more hate the city.  Also, it's June.

If the Cubs would ever lose at Wrigley this series might've been interesting.

Awesome pointless stat... half of the Cubs losses at Wrigley have been to the Brewers, who just happen to suck on the road.

That's actually pretty crucial as a lot of people think the Brewers will be there in September.

Props for sticking with that cornfed beast McClung.  I liked him even when he was getting slapped around in Tampa.

Chicago is the third largest media outlet in the country, and contrary to what you believe, there are Cubs fans all over the country.  Have you ever noticed that Cubs fans fill half the park at all over their road games?  We have some bandwagon fans, but that just comes with the territory when the team is playing well.  Look at the Red Sox for instance.

True, and according to Buster Olney, who actually knows his stuff, we're the favorites right now to land C.C. Sabathia.  A healthy Sheets/Sabathia 1-2 punch would be pretty nice.

McClung has been a pleasant surprise.  He's actually been much better as a starter for us.

Yes, I'm full aware of the traveling d-bag filled bandwagons.  Still, 20 percent of a stadium crowd is a fingernails worth of people in a city.  Still doesn't mean anybody but .02 percent of people outside of Chicago care.

What kind of prospects would you have to give up?  I bet Parra would be gone.  Who's the big minor league prospect right now?  Would you be worried about CC bolting?

Not true, WGN used to broadcast every game nationwide.  The older generations grew up watching the Cubs in all parts of the country.  I'm sure most of those people have passed it on to their kids.

This is ridiculous.  Most Cable packages include WGN, which happened to broadcast Cubs games, but it wasn't as if WGN only came on FOR Cubs games.  I watched it for the Full House reruns.

Cubs fans are all over the country because Chicago is a terrible place to live climate wise, but they're not in these astronomical, societal altering numbers you claim.  They're mostly nerds jockeying against the local team to stand out and find a niche.
I live in Denver.  I realize Cubs fans travel well.  They come out in droves when they're in town to play the Rockies.  A-holes wear their Cubs crap even when the Rockies are playing somebody else.  I'm not denying the numbers, I'm just letting you down gently and helping you to realize that, at least in this city, nobody cares about the crosstown series.  It's not on the local news.  It's not in the paper other than a box score.  Etc. Etc.

Apparently, Matt Gamel is the best prospect in baseball now that Jay Bruce is up in the majors. He's a 3rd basemen, however his defense has been described as "Braun like", so he's probably best suited for 1B or DH.  LaPorta is also the 10th rated prospect in baseball and can play the corner outfield spots or 1st.  I'd love to see Sabathia in a Brewers uni, but only if we get him signed to an extension first.

I never once said the Cubs had an astronomical amount of fans outside Chicago.  I was simply stating that there are quite a few fans nationwide because many people 45+ grew up with Cubs games playing every day on the tube.

I understand that many people may not care in Denver.  However, I've got a buddy that lives there as well and he said there are quite a few.  Either way, I could care less.

What does that even mean?  By your logic, nobody cares about the Cubs outside of Chicago.  So wouldn't those fans root for home team?

I acknowledged it's more than 'nobody', I'm just trying to make it clear that 'few' outside of Chicago care about this crosstown June series.  It's not making headlines anywhere but in Chicago and on ESPN.  The latter being one of the least credible places known to get actual sports news.

However, I will admit that come October there will a country united in rooting AGAINST the Cubs, so I guess they have that going for them.

Fair enough, I guess I don't like it when ESPN jams NYC teams down my throat either.  I repectfully disagree that nobody outside Chicago cares about the Cubs.  Outside Boston and NY, Chicago has the largest fan base in my opinion.

It does, because it's the second biggest city in the country, people that grew up somewhere not near a big league club are most likely going to adopt a team from either NY or Chicago (or Boston, the flavor of the decade), that plus the millions that grew up in or near Chicago and moved away.

I didn't mean nobody cares about the Cubs, I just meant that national attention dedicated to this particular series has been largely fabricated.
