On Wednesday night, Kansas State visited Louisville in a matchup of 2 former powerhouse programs who have fell on hard times as of late. Neither are ranked, both are coming off of very subpar seasons, and after this game, both already have one loss.
Louisville beat KSU 38-29 in a game that wasn't as close as the score indicated. After Kansas State struck first with a Josh Freeman TD pass late in the 1st quarter. After that, the Cardinals took over. They answered with 3 TD's of their own, and took a 20-7 lead.
In the middle of the 3rd quarter, KSU's punt returner Deon Murphy had the highlight of the game. As you can see in the above video, he ran backwards for about 10 yards before exploding for what eventually because an 86-yard punt return for a TD. Murphy conjured images of the old Bo Jackson runs in Tecmo Super Bowl. Ok, so maybe it wasn't quite THAT impressive, but he certainly took a page out of Bo's playbook.
Although Murphy's return brought the Wildcats within a TD, Louisville attacked right back with 2 more TD's to put the game out of reach.
Louisville QB Hunter Cantwell finished 22-33 for 274 yards and 2 TD passes, but RB Victor Anderson was the star for the Cardinals. He ran the ball 18 times for 176 yards and 3 TD runs of 27 yards or more. The Louisville rushing attack was instrumental in beating KSU, and helped them to a ridiculous advantage in time of possession. The Cardinals had the ball for over 41 minutes, against 18:34 for Kansas State.
Next week, Kansas State will play Louisiana-Lafayette, and Louisville will face fellow Connecticut in the Friday night game.
