I don't know if West Ham United used all of their best players, and frankly I don't care, but I am proud to say that our MLS All-Stars managed to beat the Hammers 3-2 last night in one hell of a fun All-Star Game. If only the MLB All-Star game had been this entertaining.
Now, while I realize that West Ham finished literally right in the middle of the Premiership this past season, I think anytime an American squad - even if they're an All-Star squad - beats a European club, it's news.
Except you'll notice there's just one problem with the highlights of this video. It seems like there isn't a single American who touches the ball for the MLS side. Christian Gomez, who's from Argentina, scored the first goal. Cuauhtemoc Blanco, who was the MVP and scored the second goal is from Mexico. And the third goal came from Canadian international Dwayne De Rosario, who was tripped in the box and then hammered in the penalty kick.
The rest of the highlights are Beckham passing.
So, let's see here. I think that means America actually lost then to West Ham 2-0. However, Team International Past Their Prime Guys won 3-2.
Oh well, I'll still take the victory, and I'm sure the MLS will too.
Also of note from this game was announcer Rob Stone mixing it up with fans and being introduced to Bitchy the Hawk, who guards Toronto's field from pigeons (or as I like to call them, "rats of the sky"). Stone freaks out a bit with Bitchy on his arm, and honestly, can you blame him? That hawk didn't get the name Bitchy by being polite.
