No, they're not knocking out their opponents, nor are they demanding that reporters fornicate with them before they give a sound byte. The comparisons to Tyson begin (and end) with the slogan that they've been using this year.
"What'd he say?" she asked me. "Something about eating kids."The rest, as they say, is history. The Lady Terps now shout "eat kids" in the locker room before games, in order to pump each other up.
In case you missed it originally, the quote comes from Tyson's post-fight interview after destroying Lou Savarese in less than a minute back in June of 2000. It's at about the 1:15 mark in this video:
Yemi Oyefuwa (originally from London) might be taking it a little too far though, if you ask me.
Ok, so maybe she's not completely serious. It's safe to say that the Lady Terps aren't quite as insane and unstable as Mike Tyson, but they do hope to emulate his "impetuous style" and "impregnable defense". They're doing well so far, as they beat 16th-seeded Dartmouth 82-53 and #9 seed Utah 71-56. They have now won 14 in a row, and their last loss was on January 30 to Virginia.
As crazy as it is, this children eating thing might actually work.
