Almost daily round-up of college hoops, at least when anything interesting happens ...
Can they arrange a game in Africa? A lot of silly guarantees are thrown about in sports (more on that soon), and Michael Beasley's "we'll beat them at home, we'll beat them on the road, we'll beat them in Africa" guarantee seemed certain to join those ranks. After all, they hadn't beat Kansas in 24 years.
If you're going to be the one's to talk a big game, you'd better back it up. Bill Walker (22 pts) and Beasley's (25) led the way. Attention draft scouts: Beasley was 4-4 from three-point range. That's sick. That should seal his name being the first selected this summer.
A very well deserved storming of the court (above) for a crowd that had as much to do with the win as anyone on the court. And by the way, Kansas is still the best team in the country. I hate the term 'a good loss,' but this was one.
Lone undefeated Memphis cruised in the one remaining conference game that was supposed to create some difficulty. Now there's only one game left on the schedule that ruin their perfect season (Tennessee), but I doubt that'll be any closer than this game against the Cougars.
Normally I'd be surprised by Joey Dorsey's 22 rebounds, but when you watch him play it seems he should have at least 20 every game if he put his mind to it.
Needed that one Texas A&M desperately needed a big win. Suffice it to say, they got one. 80-63 over their rival Longhorns. If you've paid any attention to these hoops conjectures, you probably know what I'm going to point out about Texas: when you rely on the 3-ball, you're going to lose.
Kind of good beats just OK Some bonehead on ESPN was boasting that the SEC was the best basketball conference because they had the most ranked teams this week. Why don't you go run really hard into a wall, my friend. Mississippi beat Vanderbilt soundly 74-58. Both ranked because of a weak non-conference schedule. Give it time and the SEC will slowly migrate further south. Nothing to see here, move on.
Several good games tonight:
Boston College at #4 North Carolina -- tough for the Eagles to win on the road, but don't rule them out. #11 Indiana at #13 Wisconsin -- First place in the Big Ten on the line. Arizona State at #5 UCLA
