Michael Rando: Little Leaguer Makes Great Catch at the Wall to Steal Home Run

In Little League games, you don't expect to see many outstanding defensive plays. Even among the best players, you just hope that no kid makes a bad error and ends up in tears in the outfield on national television.

Michael Rando of Walpole, MA doesn't have to worry about that. With his team clinging to a 3-2 lead over Hamilton, OH in their first Little League World Series game, Rando made a sensational play. With a man kid on and 2 outs in the bottom of the 6th, he went to the wall and pulled back a certain home run to win the game for his team.

"I think I jumped higher than I needed to, because I caught the ball in the palm of my hand," Rando said. "I couldn't believe it."

Not only did Michael's catch wow the fans in Williamsport, he also impressed the fans in a bigger venue - Fenway Park - where his catch was shown on the big screen.

I was at the Bo Sox game Friday night and when they showed that on the big screen the Fens went crazy. Good for the Walpole little league a very nice town. Good for the Jimmy Fund for surpassing their goal of 3 million during the telethon. If only Gagne could hold the lead it would of been a perfect night.
