Mike Ribeiro Slashes Chris Osgood In The Chest
Mike Ribeiro Does Everything He Can To End Dallas' Season Early

If Mike Ribeiro was looking to completely bury the Stars' chances of coming back in this series, I'd say he did it last night when he stupidly decided to slash Chris Osgood across the chest after the final horn sounded.

Ribeiro and the Stars are claiming that Osgood butt-ended Ribeiro near the eye during one the last mad scrambles in front of the net, but so what? That doesn't entitle you to take a baseball swing to a guy's chest after the final horn sounds. Although if you could do that, it would officially make hockey the awesomest sport ever.

There's little consensus on how long Ribeiro will be suspended for, but the likely scenario is one game. Losing Ribeiro would be a major blow to the Stars, of course. He leads them with 15 points in the playoffs and has 12 assists.

So I guess the only question now is who's going to face Detroit in the Finals?

UPDATE: Here's a good angle of Osgood's cheap shot on Ribeiro courtesy of Deadspin. It was definitely a cheap shot. Although that doesn't excuse what Ribeiro did. By the way, I meant to mention this before, but nice acting job Osy.

I just had to say that while Ribeiro was completely in the wrong in taking that swing at Osgood no matter what the reason that Osgood did the typical goalie thing that as soon as he felt anything touch him he hit the ice as hard as he could. All I'm trying to say is that if I were the ref and this happened in regulation it would simply be offsetting minors with Ribeiro going for slashing and Osgood for diving. The amount of padding a goalie has there he can stick his chest in front of a hundred mile an hour shot but that little slash makes him go down like he had a shotgun to the chest, Ribeiro wasn't even able to get a full windup in as he had a red wing with his hands around him.

Overall they're both to blame and I wouldn't be suprised if Ribeiro ends up with either no suspension or a single game.  The whole seeing who has the bigger crank shaft after the play and after the games has never mad any sense to me just play the game as hard as you can while its going and avoid the pissing matches after the play.

I thought the same thing. Come on, you have frozen chunks of hard rubber shot at you at high speeds, yet a half swing of a stick sends you down like that? Maybe if it got him under the arm a little bit, but still.

Like Osgood said, it more surprised him than anything.  He felt the stick and just fell.  If Ribeiro isnt suspended, his head will be on the chopping block next game.  McCarty only has one fight so far this playoffs, I think its time for another ass-kicking.
He won't be suspended and he shouldn't.  Getting but ended in the facial area with a stick is far more dangerous than taking a half a**ed wack at a goalie with his chest protector on.  If one gets suspended, so should both of them.   Neither were right, but if you suspend one of them the other guy has a reason to be suspended also.

Unfortunately, its crap like that that sends "high class" (whatever that is) sports writers/reporters into a frenzy about how violent hockey is and how its a "2nd class" sport. Ozzie dive or not, Ribeiro is probably going to have to made an example of, simple because it came after a play was done.  If Ozzie's shot was "cheap", it was still done during play action. And RenegadeLG - the general media has been pussifying hockey for years now - I've gotten used to it.

Might I add that while McCarty may be itching fight, Steve Ott has gotten into hardly a scuffle this series.. so Im sure tonight will be an amazing game to see some redwings get their "asskicking"

See ya there.

I love Osgood, being he was a former Seattle Thunderbird... .BUT GIVE THE MAN AN OSCAR!!!!!  He started it with his stick jab  on Ribeiro, when Ribeiro was in almost a full skate... the velocity of the stick jab was most likely 10 times more than the actual swing of Ribeiro's stick to Osgood's pads.... Actually, if I was Osgood, I would be embarrassed after watching the numerous replays.  ***Disclaimer*** In aboslutely NO WAY am I condoning swinging of the stick....  Should be a good game tonight.
