Greetings, puckheads! Today it's just me and BK, but Debi should be joining us in the comments momentarily. Not many games today, but judging by the lineup, they'll be intensely entertaining. The one nationally aired game is the Stars and Predators, on the network formerly known as Versus, NBC Sports Network. While I'm not a big fan of Dallas, I do like the Predators, and Rinne is extremely fun to watch so I'll probably be joining you for that one, at least for a bit. Read on for our game "analyses" and predictions...
Game: Leafs (11-8-0) @ Flyers (9-10-1)
Broadcast: TSN, CSN-PH
Jess - This will be a battle - the Leafs are playing out of their minds, and the Flyers are coming off a momentum building win over the Jets. I'm taking the home team for the upset. Flyers.
BK - Toronto plays great on the road, Philly plays pretty decent at home. Sorry, but I can't find it in me to pick Philly, Jess. I hate them as badly as you hate the Stars, perhaps even more. I'm taking the Leafs to pull out a road win.
Game: Canadiens (12-4-2) @ Senators (11-6-2)
Broadcast: RDS, TSN-HABS, SNET-E
Jess - The Habs have cooled off a bit and the Sens are home. Each team has won one against the other so far this year, each on home ice. I don't know though - something is telling me to take the Habs on the road today.
BK - The Sens have been playing surprisingly well for as many injuries as they've sustained recently. That won't happen tonight though. Michel Therrien has the Habs playing like he had the Pens playing in 2008 when they went to the finals against the Wings the first time. I'm taking the Habs to shut down the Sens.
Game: Stars (9-8-1) @ Predators (8-6-5)
- Unfortunately, the Preds have next to zero offense. Fortunately for them, they have a monster netminder in Pekka Rinne (I just like saying his name...but he is indeed great.) I usually hem and haw over whether or not to pick Nashville, but not today. It helps them that I refuse to pick Dallas, ever.
- I'm picking the Preds for a) fear my sister will strangle me if I don't and perhaps try to kidnap Jamie Dixon, and b) I want to see Jagr cry.
Game: Oilers (7-7-3) @ Blackhawks (15-0-3)
Broadcast: SNET-W, CSN-CH
Jess - One might look at these two teams and think there's no way the Oilers win. However, two things: I think soon, vulnerability sets in for the Hawks. They can't go all season without at least one regulation loss - it just isn't done in hockey. It's just a matter of time. Also, the Oilers give Chicago fits for whatever reason. That said, I still don't think the Blackhawks' streak ends on home ice. Blackhawks (possibly in overtime.)
BK - They did it again last night, but it was only a mere 1-0 game against lowly Columbus. Will that be a wake up call or is this the night it finally happens? Judging by last night I'm very tempted to pick the Oilers...but I'm not gonna. Hawks find a way to keep the Midas touch for one more night.
Game: Ducks (13-2-1) @ Kings (8-6-2)
Broadcast: PRIME, FS-W
Jess - Ahhh the Freeway Faceoff. No matter how either of these teams are doing in any given season, they tend to split. The Ducks have been on a roll, but is this the night that they come back down to earth? I'm almost positive this game at least goes into overtime...maybe even the shootout. I won't pick it though - as per usual with my teams.
BK - Let me flip a coin...I gotta go with the Kings on home ice, sorry Jess!
Jess - Don't be sorry, Bryan. Honestly, if I made picks for my team this one would be a really tough one. It always is with the Kings.
