Perfect Cure for the Super Bowl Hangover: Monday Night Hockey [NHL Live Thread]

2/4/13 in NHL   |   Jess   |   34634 respect

Good afternoon/evening, puckheads! Today we have a few games to kick off the week and get over our Super Bowl Sunday hangover. The games tonight look like they'll actually be pretty good, as most of the matchups have similar records. This should lead to a fairly exciting night of hockey.

7:00pm

Game: Hurricanes (3-4)  @ Maple Leafs (4-4)
Broadcast: FS-CR, SNET-O
Pick: Maple Leafs

Game: Stars (3-5-1) @ Avalanche (4-4)
Broadcast: TSN, NBCSN
Pick: Regardless of which team is better, I cannot in good conscience pick the Stars. But we're in luck; I think the Avs are better anyway.

Game: Wild (4-3-1) @ Coyotes (3-4-2)
Broadcast: FS-N, FS-WI, FS-A
Pick: Wild

9:30pm

Game: Canucks (4-2-2) @ Oilers (4-3-1)
Broadcast: RDS2, SNET-P, SNET-W
Pick: This is a tough pick, as these two teams are well matched on paper, and I haven't seen the Oilers play this season. It appears as if Luongo gets the nod for this game despite having been a backup to start the season. I'm going with the Oilers.

10:00pm

Game: Sharks (7-0-1) @ Ducks (5-1-1)
Broadcast: CSN-CA, FS-W
Pick: The Sharks are playing out of their minds right now, but the Ducks took them into OT the last time they met up, in San Jose. If Anaheim can play like they have the past couple of games, they may just hand the Sharks their first regulation loss. I'm not sure though. They've been inconsistent and undisciplined and might be due for another letdown. Holding my breath...

You know we can't kick off a game thread without providing some fun highlights first. How about some pretty goals tonight?

Netminder acrobatics and amazing blocks are always my favorite, but it's fun to watch what the guys on offense can do too - especially against a great goalie.

Who do you think we'll see score the best goals tonight? Who are you rooting for? What are your picks? Q it up here for Monday Night Hockey on FanIQ!

haha -  my husband and I were just talking about it. The premise is cool, but the sound effects are what annoy me I think. Maybe they need to have it be a goal horn or something instead? I don't know.

I'm really liking Fasth. And that shot by Souray was unbelievable.

Sharks played a great game though..had me scared until the last second.

Well...  They had to lose one eventually...   Big test tomorrow against Chicago.

Greiss is undoubtedly good but that Sharks defense is insane.

Burish, the return of Stuart, and perhaps even the presence of Larry Robinson has helped....

Ugh...  That goal was infuriating....  Not much you can do against a bad break...

Would be great to head into the semi-big Blackhawk game tomorrow night that way.

I don't like that idea.

I always love Cam Ward's lid. He's also pretty good at that goal tending thing.

Bahaha I must have been in football mode when I wrote this. Wrong mascot for Carolina. Silly girl.
