It has taken years of long, hard work to get to this point, but we're finally there.
The NBA will officially start fining floppers next season. Hallelujah.
Here are the details in the sweetest paragraph I have ever read:
NBA executive vice president of basketball operations Stu Jackson confirmed the new policy Wednesday night saying: "What was clearly expressed to the committee is that we would begin imposing fines next season for the most egregious type of flops. When players are taking a dive, for lack of a better term."Specific penalties haven't been set up yet, but I'm hoping they go with the death penalty. Or the iron maiden. Harsh, sure. But effective, yes.
Some of the players out there whose careers have now officially ended include Manu Ginobili, Anderson Varejao, AK-47, Raja Bell, Bruce Bowen, Robert Horry, Andres Nocioni and Sam Cassell (although his career is more or less over).
I'm just glad that we'll no longer have to watch junk like this.
Or this.
By the way, Rasheed Wallace, who is my new hero, is no fan of flopping. Here's what he had to say about the Celtics after last night's brutal loss in Boston.
"All that bull(bleep)-ass calls they had out there. With Mike [Callahan] and Kenny [Mauer] -- you've all seen that (bleep). You saw them calls. The cats are flopping all over the floor and they're calling that (bleep). That (bleep) ain't basketball out there. It's all (bleeping) entertainment. You all should know that (bleep). It's all (bleeping) entertainment."I have to agree with 'Sheed. Especially about those cats. Ya dig?
