Double Header and Four Bonus Games [NHL Live Thread]

3/23/13 in NHL   |   Jess   |   28029 respect

Greetings, puckheads! For the sake of a happy hockey day, I'm going to pretend like at least one game yesterday didn't happen and just be glad my Ducks have a minute to recover.

BK: I completely forgot about this before going to bed last night...nothing like sending my picks at 6:00 in the morning, woohoo!

That's okay BK!

Today we have a NHL Network double header starting at 4:00pm (Eastern time, remember) and several other games to flip between. let's take a look!
Blog Photo - NHL Saturday All Day Hockey [Live Thread]

2:00pm
Game: Lightning (13-16-1) @ Senators (16-9-6)
Broadcast: SUN, SNET-E, TVA
Picks:
Jess: Bolts on the road + Senators who refuse to realize they're weakened due to injury = Ottawa wins.

BK: I don't really think the Bolts have a ray's chance in h-e-double hockey sticks to win this game, but they may keep it close. Ultimately the Sens will find a way to win.

Debi: C'mon Sens!!!! I'm getting so discouraged lately

2:00pm
Game: Sharks (13-10-6) @ Wild (17-10-2)
Broadcast: CSN-CA, FS-N, FS-WI
Picks:
Jess: Did the Wild really just put a little win streak together on the road? The Wild? On the road? That in itself is impressive. They are white hot - and they play even better at home. I've got to give the edge to them here.

BK: The Wild will win this one on home ice. The Sharks are still a huge disappointment.

Debi: Gotta go for the Wild today. Gut pick

4:00pm
Game: Canucks (15-9-6) @ Kings (17-11-2)
Broadcast: NHLN-US, SNET-P, FS-W
Picks:
Jess: Oh my, I know one Kings fan that will probably be screaming profanities at Canucks players today at Staples. I can't pick the Canucks. It would make me feel dirty.

BK: The champs got this one for our favorite teach. Go Kings!

Debi: Ha! Kings better win!!

7:00pm
Game: Bruins (20-6-3) @ Maple Leafs (16-12-3)
Broadcast: CBC, NHLN-US, NESN
Picks:
Jess: Normally I would pick the Bruins here, but I think we get an upset.

BK: Ooh, the Bruins might be in for a surprise in this one. The Leafs have struggled a but as of late, but I'm picking them to break out of this slump and beat the B's tonight.

Debi: The Bruins should have this even on the road.....

7:00pm
Game: Sabres (12-15-4) @ Canadiens (20-5-5)
Broadcast: CBC, RDS, MSG-B
Picks:
Jess: Habs.

BK: Habs in a laugher on home ice. Buffalo already won their game for the week.

Debi: Gotta take the Habs

7:00pm
Game: Panthers (9-16-6) @ Devils (14-11-6)
Broadcast: FS-F, MSG PLUS
Picks:
Jess: Did Marty really score a goal the other night or did I dream that? For real? And "no" assists? Ordinarily you would assume a goalie goal with no assists would be in the last couple of minutes of the game, empty net, junk goal. Well, there was an empty net alright. On a delayed penalty call against New Jersey, 'Cane's goalie left his net for the extra attacker and since they can't credit one of their own players for a goal against themselves they credited the last NJ player to touch the puck.  It's even more bizarre than it sounds.

I doubt that happens again. But considering they won the game against a very good Carolina team 4-1, I've got to think they can beat a lowly Panthers team. Devs win.

BK: Ugh, Devils.

Debi: Devils it is!

8:00pm
Game: Blue Jackets (13-12-6) @ Predators (12-13-6)
Broadcast: FS-O, FS-TN
Picks:
Jess: I personally think both of these teams are better than their records, and I think this should be an entertaining game. I don't know who to pick, so I'll do like I usually do in that situation and call it for the home team.

BK: I think this is where the points streak ends, Nashville wins this one in regulation as Rinne shuts them down.

Debi: Something is happening with the Blue Jackets but I still gotta go with the Preds

8:00pm
Game: Avalanche (11-14-4) @ Stars (14-13-3)
Broadcast: ALT, FS-SW
Picks:
Jess: GO AVS!

BK: Well this sucks, I don't really want to pick Dallas, but the Avs are atrocious on the road...I'm just staying out of this game.

Debi: Avs!

10:00pm
Game: Blues (16-11-2) @ Oilers (11-11-7)
Broadcast: CBC, RDS2, FS-MW
Picks:
Jess: Blues pick up a win on the road.

BK: I think the Blues have this one. Edmonton might try to keep it close but they're still not there.

Debi: I gotta take the Blues here. Hating on the Oilers lately

And oh my goodness look what I found! The Top 10 Saves from the first half of the season. Seriously? For me? They shouldn't have! (Just kidding...they really should have.) Watch these amazing - if not sometimes just flat lucky - saves, courtesy of NHL.com...

Swoon. I tried to play goalie once. I have the permanent little dent in my shin to remind me not to do it again.

While March Madness is still in full swing, why not mix it up a bit throughout the day with a bit of hockey? Q it up  here with me!

I feel like  have been in a cave for a few days.  I have no idea who has won what.  Even though I was at BP for supper, and the Edmonton/St. Louis game, I still feel rather lost.  I want my life back!!

Wow Sabres, Rick Jennaret is enjoying this game so far.  Can they hold off the Habs?

The Sens hung on for dear life against the Bolts, but they won.  The Wild shut out the Sharks, and Corey Schneider is working on a shutout of the Kings.
