Missing your Thursday Night Football? No worries, enjoy some hockey!
Tonight, hidden among all the games, we have Jess's very own Ducks taking on those much hated Stars. If you're smart, you might want to duck (no pun intended) and run for cover if the Stars manage to get any kind of a lead over the Ducks........ which of course will never happen.
We are past the half way point in our shortened season, meaning we are starting to talk playoffs. The games are becoming more important, the two points instead of one, critical. What can we expect tonight?
Here is our schedule, all times Eastern.
Florida Panthers (7-14-6) at Boston Bruins (17-4-3)
Broadcast: FS-Florida, NESN
Jess: Haha, how funny would it be if Florida won this game? I don’t think it’ll happen, but it was an amusing thought to entertain.
Bryan: I think it's safe to say that if the Bruins have a 2-goal lead in the 3rd against THIS team, they're more than capable of holding it. B's bounce back and probably win this game in the first period.
Debi: HA! I honestly don't think there is a hope in hell that Florida will win this one, but it's nice to pretend they could.
Pittsburgh Penguins (19-8-0) at Toronto Maple Leafs (15-11-1)
Broadcast: RDS, ROOT, SNET-Ontario
Jess: wait, didn’t we just see this? Now that I look at the schedule, what is this – home and home night? On any note, I’m calling the Leafs here. I just came to the realization that I pick the Penguins ALWAYS. I may be wrong on this one, but I think it’s a safe risk.
Bryan: I'll say it again, the Leafs scare the crap out of me! Are they going to repay the favor and give the Pens their first overtime loss of the year? I certainly hope not. I can't pick against my Pens, but this game will go down to the wire. I'm just thankful this is the 3rd and final meeting with Toronto this year.
Debi: And I always seem to pick the Leafs, or at least against the Pens, but I don't know about this one. I just watched NHL 2Nite and all they could talk about was the Jake Gardiner issue over at the Leafs. Ad nauseum. I just wanted to say STFU and talk about the actual team! Anyway, they annoyed me enough that I'm picking the Pens to win tonight.
Washington Capitals (10-14-1) at Carolina Hurricanes (15-9-1)
Broadcast: NHLN-US, CSN-DC, FS-Carolinas
Bryan: Washington is starting to tumble again, and I think it continues in Raleigh. Canes find a way to win again and keep themselves perched atop the Southeast Division.
Debi: Damn. Gotta take the 'Canes.
Chicago Blackhawks (21-2-3) at Columbus Blue Jackets (10-12-5)
Broadcast: CSN-Chicago, FS-Ohio
Jess: For the love of god, did Chicago really drop one to Edmonton the other night after the Avs beat them? Did I really see that? I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt tonight against an obviously weaker team but if they lose this one I won’t be sure what to think.
Bryan: Columbus has played Chicago tough all year, and they're playing much better. However, I think this is when the Hawks wake up again and get back on the winning track.
Debi: I'm still giggling over the Blue Jackets beating the Canucks. I was also in a state of open mouth in shock the entire 'Hawks game against Edmonton. For the sole reason that they beat the Canucks, the Blue Jackets have really grown on me. However, I am with Bryan on this one, I think the 'Hawks will wake up and smell the coffee and win this one.
New York Islanders (11-12-3) at Tampa Bay Lightning (11-14-1)
Broadcast: MSG, SUN
Bryan: Woof...da Bolts!
Debi: Wow, you guys are really quick to write off the Isles in this one. Okay, then, just to play Devil's Advocate, I'll take the Islanders to win!
New York Rangers (13-10-2) at Winnipeg Jets (13-11-2)
Broadcast: MSG-PLUS, TSN-JETS
Jess: Hmm…Again, I want to pick the Jets. The Rangers are starting to look awful. Of course, last time I picked against them they won. I’ll go ahead and pick the Rangers.
Bryan: This one could be a very close game. I'm actually going to give the nod to the Jets, but I could very easily see this game going to OT.
Debi: Jets! Jets! JETS! I'll be watching this one at Boston Pizza tonight while my daughter works.
Phoenix Coyotes (13-10-3) at St. Louis Blues (14-10-2)
Broadcast: FS-Arizona+, FS-Midwest
Jess: This one is a tossup. I’ll call Blues at home.
Bryan: The Coyotes actually dismantled the Kings, but even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while. They won't do the same to the Blues on the road. St. Louis wins it on home ice.
Debi: Yeah, I gotta go with the Blues on home ice.
Colorado Avalanche (10-11-4) at Minnesota Wild (130-10-2)
Broadcast: ALTITUDE, FS-North, FS-Wisconsin
Jess: Always entertaining. The Wild suffered a tough loss after giving up the lead to the Ducks the other night, and besides the last atrocity the Avalanche are looking decent. My first instinct here is to say the Wild bounce back and beat them at home tonight though, so I’m going with that.
Bryan: These two teams have something in common besides playing in the same division. They are both great on home ice, and suck on the road. Since this one is in Minnesota, I'm taking the Wild.
Debi: I have no clue. Seriously, I have NO clue. However, since you both picked the Wild, just for fun, I'll pick the Avs.
Anaheim Ducks (19-3-3) at Dallas Stars (12-3-3)
Broadcast: PRIME, FS-Southwest
Bryan: I'm taking Jess's Ducks and for the love of all things right with the world do NOT let Jagr get so much as a point!
Debi: All I will say is the Ducks better win, or it isn't gonna be much fun on the Q.
Nashville Predators (11-9-6) at Vancouver Canucks (12-7-6)
Broadcast: FS-Tennessee, TSN
Jess: Look at these Preds, scoring like they mean it! With Rinne in net and the offensive match someone lit, I’ve gotta pick them this game.
Bryan: I'll take Nashville in a bit of an upset on the road. Rinne will be the difference maker yet again.
Debi: Oh, thank God for Rinne!!! I honestly believe they will beat the nuckleheads. Of course, TSN thinks all of Canada are Canucks fans, so they are broadcasting the game. I suddenly wish I had a Preds jersey I could wear to BP tonight.
Los Angeles Kings (14-9-2) at San Jose Sharks (11-8-6)
Broadcast: FS-West, CSN-California
Jess: What the heck, Kings? Well, they got the little 5-2 loss out of their system. I say they bounce back and win in the tank.
Bryan: Until they show any signs of life, I can't find it in me to pick the Sharks. Kings win the night cap!
Debi: I'm a little worried about the Kings managing a win in the Shark Tank, but I believe they can pull it off. I'm also still a little stunned at the loss against the Coyotes. Never saw that one coming.
It really is a huge night in hockey, heading into the second half of the season. I honestly want to watch every game. If you are watching, attending, tweeting, or even working and can't watch, join us here.
Oh, and this was the most beautiful thing last night, and I had no one to share it with, so I will share it with you.
