NHL Tuesday Night [Live Thread]

It's a HUGE night in the NHL!

Blog Photo - NHL Tuesday Night [Live Thread]This is the time of year when my hockey blood really gets going, when I sneak to my locker if I'm working to check scores, when even though many TV series are announcing their season finales, I still tune into hockey.  This is the time of year when, even though I may cheer for a team because my friend does, or follow a team because of a player, or not hate a team because, well, they just have something that makes me go "ahhhhh" all goes right out the window.

This is the last week of regular season hockey, when the battles are really on.  This is when another team's win or loss can make or break a playoff season.  This is the time of year when you either sharpen your skates and take a deep breath or bring out the golf clubs and go shopping for a new putter.

It all comes down to this last week of hockey, and it can't get much more exciting than this.  Unless, of course, it's the finals for the Stanley Cup.

Can you feel it?

Tonight, five teams can seal the deal and solidify their position in the 2013 Stanley Cup playoffs.  Of course, that clinching can depend on how another team plays.  For example, Washington can.....

Oh, never mind, I'll just quote NHL.com directly:

In the Eastern Conference, the Washington Capitals can clinch the Southeast Division and the No. 3 seed if they beat the Winnipeg Jets in either regulation or overtime. The New York Islanders can clinch a playoff berth if they defeat the Carolina Hurricanes in any fashion and the Capitals defeat the Jets in any fashion, or if they earn one point against the Hurricanes while the Capitals defeat the Jets in regulation. The New York Rangers can clinch a playoff berth if they defeat the Florida Panthers in any fashion and the Capitals defeat the Jets in regulation.
In the Western Conference, the San Jose Sharks can clinch a playoff berth if they earn at least one point against the Dallas Stars. The St. Louis Blues can clinch a playoff berth if they earn at least one point against the Colorado Avalanche.
There, that said it much better than I ever could.  Let's get to tonight's games, all times Eastern (Just one time I want to post all times Pacific, just because).

7:00 pm

Montreal Canadiens (27-13-5) at New Jersey Devils (17-18-10)
Broadcast:  RDS, TSN-HABS, MSG 2

Bet with Q-Bucks here!

Jess:  Montreal’s clinched their division, so really the only thing they’re playing for is practice for the playoffs. The Devils, on the other hand, are out and don’t have a lot to play for either. This might be a pretty lax game. Uhm. Habs.

Bryan:   I love seeing the Devils out of the playoffs.  The Habs meanwhile are in a deadlock with the Bruins for the division title, haven't clinched anything yet Jess.  They aren't playing very well lately.  Still I have to say les Habitants vont gagner ce soir!

Debi:  I have to agree that the Habs will be using this game to keep in shape, practice and stay sharp, but I can't see them taking any chances on having any players injured.  It could be a game where they will bring their fourth liners out a bit more, but I still see them getting the win.  Devils are already eliminated from the playoffs, so they are playing for pride.

Winnipeg Jets (24-19-3) at Washington Capitals (25-18-2)
Broadcast:  TSN-JETS; CSN-DC

Bet with Q-Bucks here!

Jess:  I anticipate the Jets coming out tough tonight, being right on the outside looking in with hope. Winnipeg.

Bryan:   A Caps win locks up the division crown, but I'm taking the Jets to win this one as well.

Debi:  The Jets know what they have to do and I have no doubts they will do everything in their power to win this tonight.  Good news, they have done well in Washington, so it isn't out of the question.  In fact, if they don't win, they are going to make it as tough as possible for Washington.  One of the games of the night - Jets win.

New York Islanders (24-16-5) at Carolina Hurricanes (18-24-3)
Broadcast:  MGS PLUS 2, FS-CR

Bet with QBucks here!

Jess:   Isles are jockeying for position and the ‘Canes will be trying to save face at home. This might be a fun one. I’m going to give this one to Carolina.

Bryan:   I can't pick the Canes here, just can't.  The Isles desperately need this game and they're going to play like it.

Debi:  I don't know.  The 'Canes have had a horrible record lately, but they have beaten the Isles in New York.  Ah hell, I'll go with who I want to win, the Hurricanes.

7:30 pm

Buffalo Sabres (19-21-6) at Pittsburgh Penguins (35-10-0)
Broadcast:  MSG-B, ROOT

Bet with Q-Bucks here!

Jess:  Pens

Bryan:  The Pens still have an outside shot at the President's Trophy but I don't think they'll get it.  They will still win this one and keep the momentum going strong into the playoffs.

Debi:  Pens *sigh*
Blog Photo - NHL Tuesday Night [Live Thread]
Boston Bruins (27-12-5) at Philadelphia Flyers (20-22-3)
Broadcast:  NBCSN, TSN, NESN, CSN-PH

Bet with Q-Bucks here!

Jess:  Boston’s locked it up and the Flyers don’t have anything to play for. Meh. Boston.

Bryan:    Poor Philly, James Van Reimsdyk and Joffrey Lupul are laughing all the way to the playoffs with the Leafs.  Bah-ston wins this one.

Debi:  Boston was one of the first to clinch, and they are still playing for "Boston Strong".  Besides, the Flyers are out.  Philly doesn't stand a chance.

New York Rangers (24-17-4) at Florida Panthers (13-26-6)
Broadcast: MSG PLUS, FS-F

Bet with Q-Bucks here!

Jess:  Rangers are holding on by a thread. I think they get 2pts tonight.

Bryan:   I gotta go with Henrik and company in this one, the Panthers sucketh.

Debi:  Oh my!  This is a huge game for the Ranger, and one of those games where they need a loss by another team to clinch.  However, I picked the Jets to win!  I think the Rangers get the win, but I don't think they seal the deal just yet.

8:00 pm

Colorado Avalanche (15-23-7) at St. Louis Blues (26-17-2)
Broadcast:  ALT2, FS-MW

Bet with Q-Bucks here!

Jess:  Blues

Bryan:  I agree with Jess, Blues will take this one.

Debi:  Ahhhh, the Blues can clinch tonight with a win, yet they haven't been able to beat the Avs yet this year, thwarting their chance to clinch last Sunday.  This one might come right down to the wire, but I think the Blues will win at home.

Calgary Flames (19-22-) at Nashville Predators (15-21-9)
Broadcast:  SNET-W, FS-TN

Bet with Q-Bucks here!

Jess:   Regardless of the lack of playoff implications here, this should be a fun battle. Flames in a very low scoring affair. It may even be 0-0 by the time the regulation horn sounds.

Bryan:    Not again, co-host or sister, umm...Preds win but it goes at least to OT.

Debi:  The Flames have been playing better than ever, and the kids they have called up from the minors are showing everyone they want to play with the big boys.  Keep your eyes on Mike Cundari.  Kid is good.  I couldn't be prouder if I tried, and I'm betting on the Flames tonight, although I agree it will be a damn close game.

Los Angeles Kings (26-14-5) at Minnesota Wild (24-18-3)
Broadcast:  PRIME, FS-N, FS-WI

Bet with Q-Bucks here!

Jess:  The Kings have locked up their playoff spot but they’re still trying to hold on to their seed (although worst case scenario out of tonight, they’d still be up against San Jose in the first round). However, the Wild need a win to secure their playoff spot. Kings are obviously the better team, but I think I’m calling the upset here.

Bryan:  I'm torn on this one.  Minnesota needs this game badly.  I'm taking the home team for the win to keep the Wings sweating bullets, but it'll be no easy task.

Debi:  The Wild have surprised me this year.  I think they are going to play hard tonight and give the Kings all they've got.  I actually think they might win this, although I think I picked the Kings in the Sports Bar.

10:00 pm

Dallas Stars (22-19-4) at San Jose Sharks (24-14-7)
Broadcast:  NBCSN, FS-SW+, CSN-CA

Bet with Q-Bucks here!

Jess:  Gross. Sharks though

Bryan:  I gotta take San Jose for the W in the night cap.

Debi:  Ugh.  Dallas has swept the Sharks this year, so far.  The Sharks need one point to clinch, while Dallas, even with an out and out win, may not make it to the off-season.  I think Dallas gets the full sweep.

I love this thing we have done this year, including a great video to end our thread, and to say thanks to Jess for coming up with the idea, here's the winning goal the Ducks' Getzlaf scored last night.  Ya gotta love it!

So, talk it up! Trash talk, cheer, yell, and above all, enjoy some hockey!  The playoffs are just around the corner, so this could be your last chance to see a few of these teams in action, depending on telecasts.  Enjoy!

Was at the Tank last night.  Last minute thing.  Sharks played sloppy.  If they were playing a better team they would not have gotten the win, that's for sure.  Still rooting for them of course but I'd almost rather they just loose in the first round and get it over with fast.  Unless Niemi gets SUPER hot, this team is NOT a Stanley Cup contender.

well, it's not a huge night after all.

I think that might have been the only game I picked right! Congrats Scott!

Of all the teams to lose a season series to...the SABRES?!  That's an embarrassment, and I hope this wakes up the Pens and that this is the last bad game they have.  To me, they played like complete crap tonight.  They have to win these last couple games and not go on a losing streak heading into the playoffs.

Caps win the game and the division. Please don't put up a banner for it.

Isles get to OT. If they win it there, or if the Caps hold on and beat Winnipeg, the Isles are in.

Today in "Only in DC," sitting in the owners' box tonight: Jim Craig, MC Hammer, and Sen. Tim Kaine

I was going to post something and everything changed, so I'm not posting anything LOL

Bruins and Habs are both losing, that is surprising to me.  Meanwhile the Isles, Rangers, and Jets are all losing...does ANYBODY want that last playoff spot?!

I swear every time I've turned on the Caps game tonight, they're scoring a goal. 4-2 Washington after two.
