New England Patriots Remain Undefeated, Stay Classy

I thought I'd wait until this morning to comment on the Patriots-Colts because judging by the game thread you've likely had enough from our very humble New England fans. You guys are insufferable.

First off, regardless of what happened I'm still in awe of coach Bill Belichick. How nice of him to "dress up" for the occasion. That was the biggest upset of the weekend as far as I'm concerned.

As for the game, it went precisely as expected aside from Joseph Addai going nuts. New England just makes the necessary plays.

The Patriots are an exceptionally well-balanced, well-coached team. As are the Indianapolis Colts. I don't think there's a whole lot that separates the two. What does give them the edge is a certain wide receiver named Randy Moss. That's the difference. Tom Brady is a spectacular leader and game manager, but it's Moss that's given the Patriots the confidence to know that should score at will. Game on the line? Let's toss it 50-yards downfield and either get a pass interference or typically brilliant catch.

So now the undefeated talk really picks up. Despite the well dressed Belichick's silly downplaying, 19-0 talk is officially worth the attention.
Down 10, Don Banks was enamored with the Patriots' resolve and confident they won't lose again.

I'm all talked out about this game, but feel free to share any thoughts here. As for the above video, this is precisely why the Patriots are impossible to like, despite having several likable individuals. Act like you've won before Rosie, because clearly you have.

Will the Pats go undefeated? When they've clinched the AFC will they take a break and get caught napping against the Steelers? Ravens?

To state the obvious, the Patriots are having an excellent season. Yesterday gave them the opportunity to show that they can win a close game when challenged. An undefeated season is a real possibility for them.

However, yesterday should also have eliminated (or at least damaged) the perception that this team is invincible. I saw one person predict a 55-3 Pats' victory for yesterday's game, and I think I saw someone else predict something like 44-10, NE. Those are just two people, but I think their predictions are examples - albeit extreme ones - of how some people have overreacted to the Pats' success.

I'm not checking to see what a lot of NE fans have been saying in the aftermath of the game, but I hope there's a healthy dose of humility in their enjoyment of another W. That's not to say they have something to be ashamed of just because they were tested by a strong Colts team. However, if there's no acknowledgement that their team may be beatable, and that they were at least a little worried before those 2 fourth-quarter TD's, then those fans probably are not very realistic and/or not very honest, in my opinion.

Also, whether Pats fans like it or not, it is noteworthy that Harrison did not play. I'm NOT saying the Colts would have won if he had played, though they might have; that's hypothetical when the reality is that he didn't play and the Pats won. However, the rest of the season is still hypothetical at this point, and NE fans should recognize that a potential playoff game with Indy (though likely in New England) could be even harder for the Pats if Harrison is at full strength. If not for the fact that the Patriots are at home against the Steelers, I would say that even Pittsburgh (if at full strength, with a good defense and all of their offensive weapons) has a moderate chance of beating NE.

Patriots fans, realize that I haven't said that your team isn't great. I've said they're having an excellent season and they have a real chance at going undefeated. Still, I'm not going to call them invincible and I'm not inclined to call them the best team in NFL history when the season is 9 games (admittedly, impressive games) old.

LT hit the nail on the head after last year's playoffs.  This is a classless team and they get it from their coach.  That said, they are insanely talented and have an all-time great coach.  Tough combination to beat.

It's too bad - I want to like them. Really I do. I want to be excited about seeing history in the making. Of course I'm extremely amazed by their collective talent - however, I'm NOT impressed with their sportsmanship (or lack thereof). I don't want to dislike any team; that's not me, but they're making it difficult with things like this.

Well at least they stay "classy" but then accuse the Colts of cheating, when they won.

Is it not cheating when a team loses?

I'm not accusing anyone of anything...just a question.

If the Tables were turned and they heard a glitch everyone on this site and many others would be damning the Patriots even more.  You are all ANTI PATRIOTS and it is too funny.

You're missing his point.  Its pointless to pump noise into something that isn't a dome.

OK kantwistaye if the packers played a game in INDI and every person watching heard the same thing we heard would you want them to investigate what it was????????????

Watching the game I honestly didn't put it together that it could be pumped in noise.  Honestly I wouldn't care.  The Packers have two guaranteed dome games a year, and I'm almost 100% certain that they pump in noise every single time.  That doesn't bother me the slightest bit.

Why does spiking the ball in the middle of the field bother you but cheating to help your team win doesn't???

Here (from the NFL):

"CBS has informed us that the unusual audio moment heard by fans during the Patriots-Colts game was the result of tape feedback in the CBS production truck and was isolated to the CBS broadcast," the league said. "It was in no way related to any sound within the stadium and could not be heard in the stadium."

I've never even considered it cheating.  To me its just part of dome team's homefeild advantage.  Thats just my opinion though.

Again - I think this is just ONE example...and just for the record; you know I've got nothin' but love for you Nick, but a Pats fan accusing someone in the NFL of cheating? Am I the only one who finds the irony in this statement?

It is considered cheating, seeing as the rulebook states it is. Its not about opinions, its a fact that it is cheating to pipe in sound. Both of them are against the rules but one will hurt your teams chance of winning (spiking) and one will help the teams chance of winning (sound). Its not even comparable.

Well the fact is that only one of them actually happened

Yes, but piping in noise is something every team does, regardless of whether they are a classy organization or the Vikings (j/k Viking fans, sort of). The Patriots and every other franchise have played countless games in domes with piped in noise and won many times.  Not only that, but every coach in the league is already prepared for it.  On the other hand, no player with any respect or class would take the ball go to the midfield logo and spike it.

Well according to Brian Billick and Romeo Crennel every team films the other coaches and the other teams have won before but its a big deal??? These statements make me so mad. Its so hypocritical to say one thing is done around the league (that is illegal) but its okay, then when another thing that is done around the league (that is illegal) but its not okay. It shouldn't matter, all cheating should be treated the same but its not because the one team that got caught cheating happens to be the best team this year (if not ever). Now I don't condone cheating but if people are going to hop all over one team for doing then hop all over the other teams too, don't be hypocritical.

Not according to kantwistaye. He says every dome team pumps in the sound. So I am going to assume he is correct.

I am not accusing anyone of cheating. Just trying to make a point that if (like kantwistaye) teams pump in music why is it any different then filming the other team. They are both against the rules, both try to help you win and both don't always work. What is so different about the two?? Except the fact that the best team this year commit one of the crimes.

Why am I doing myself a disservice??? I am over it. The Patriots cheated there is nothing I can do to change that, why should I forget about that forever???
