Nick Barnett Gets Taken Down By Referee Jim Quirk

In an odd way, this video of Barnett being tackled and taken down by a ref half his size serves of my favorite highlight of Week 16.

So I was a little surprised to see the headline this morning: Nick Barnett won't face any disciplinary action from the league. I sure hope not.

Can we get an unnecessary roughness called on an official? We've seen tackles like this on quarterbacks get the excessive fine treatment.

Nick Barnett was a shrutebag the entire game. The umpire probably got sick of his crap, just like everyone else was.

I'm not sure how the umpire is not getting punished by the league for this, he could've easily hurt Barnett.  Its seems to go with Goodell's idea that the league never does anything wrong and the players are always wrong though.

I'm seeing that Bud Light commercial in my head where the ref tackles the guy.

I can't imagine it was his intention or dream to tackle Barnett. He was just pulling him out of an altercation.

I think if players are going to start or get involved in scrums, whatever happens to them in the process of ending it by the refs is just part of the risk. I'm not saying the ref has a right to start gouging eyes, but if a player is injured in being separated from another, hey, that's the risk you take in getting involved in that BS.

Then the league needs to train the refs how to break up fights.  That was a joke.  The last thing the league needs is to have their refs take out the one of the best players of one of the best teams in the league.

It is easy to see the ref tripped but I say give them tasers, that would stop the a-holes that cann't just play football but have to draw attention to themselves on every play.

I agree... that was pretty ridiculous.  And if he was so upset and needed to be pulled away... the ref would not have been ABLE to pull him down.

I saw that at a sports bar, (I had to find a place showing the game, because I needed Green Bay to lose and was mildly interested) and never could figure out why the Ref was pulling Barnett off.  I assume there was a fight going on, but I wonder if that's the case why there wasn't a flag thrown?

In other news, the NFL has decided that the Ref was being excessive.   Barnett has decided that he will not pursue further action because he just wanted to hear the league say they were wrong.  Altogether now....Awwww.
