There were a lot of people out there, myself included, who thought this De La Hoya vs. Pacquiao fight was simply a set up for De La Hoya. Pacquiao had to gain weight, and in addition to that, he's noticeably smaller than De La Hoya and has a shorter reach. I figured while it wouldn't be an easy fight for De La Hoya, he'd be able to win based on the fact that everything about this fight was clearly in his favor.
But Pacquiao would have none of that. Pacquiao, who is now clearly the best pound-for-pound fighter in boxing, just hammered De La Hoya. Seriously, just watch the video above. There's an incredible slow-mo shot of Pacquiao landing three enormous punches on De La Hoya - all in a row. On pretty much everyone's card, Pacquiao won every round of the fight.
In the end, the beating was too much for De La Hoya, who failed to answer the bell for the ninth round.
Truly an amazing performance by Pacquiao, who is on par with Michael Jordan at his peak in terms of popularity in his home country of the Philippines. Hell, Pacquiao might as well run for President after winning this fight. He'd win in a landslide.

Glad I didn't fork out any $$$ for PPV - might catch the re-broadcast but reads like it isn't even worth doing that....

224 punches landed for PacMan vs. 83 for The Golden Boy...It was a Beat Down...

I can't believe that HBO made people pay $55 to watch what turned out to be three of the worst fights i've ever seen. De La Hoya was just given his ticket to Palookaville. He is now 0 - 6 in big name bouts. Maybe he'll cut another album. He could title it "Honorable Mention Boy".

It was a blow-out...Manny brought the pain on this fight. The apin was to much to bare that Dela Hoya did not answer the 9th Round. Dela Hoya new it was coming, the strength & the quickness of Manny but maybe he thought he can endure them. But sorry Oscar. It's Pacman's Time.

Yeah he did look extremely thin. But all that said, he had every advantage in this fight and still got rocked. I'd have to think he retires real soon. His last few fights have been more or less setups for him to look good in. But when you're getting crushed during attempted setups, might as well hang 'em up.

Is it just me, or does De La Hoya look like a crack addict at 147? Either way, De La Hoya was too slow, and his power appeared non existent in this fight. Blah Blah Blah. When's he gonna retire?
