NBA Triple Threat: Your daily roundup of last night's action in the Association.Indiana 118 LA Lakers 117 The Lakers lost their second game of the season in dramatic fashion. Danny Granger scored a game high 32 points but it was a tip in at the buzzer by Troy Murphy that gave the Pacers the victory, and handed the Lakers their first loss on the road. In the wild last moments of the game, which you will see below, the Pacers completed a 15 point 4th quarter comeback to knock off the Lakers. Kobe Bryant scored 28 and in doing so became the second fastest player to score 22,000 points. Wilt Chamberlain was one day younger than Bryant when he reached that milestone, so suck on that Kobe. In addition to the buzzer beater, Murphy added 14 more points and 17 rebounds to give him his 9th straight double-double. Surprisingly, of the Pacers 7 wins this season, 2 of them are against the Celtics and Lakers making them the only team to have beaten both this season.
Denver 132 Toronto 93 I am a firm believer that a team needs a great point guard to succeed. Well, Denver went and got a great point guard and they are looking like a completely different team. The Nuggets are 12-3 since acquiring Chauncey Billups and have looked like a force in the West. Billups led the way in this beat down with 24 points and 14 assists while Carmelo added 23 and Nene chipped in 19 and 11 rebounds. The Nuggets set season highs in points with 132 and assists with 37. Chris Bosh and Jermaine O'Neal combined for 36 points and 14 rebounds but wasn't anywhere near enough as the Nuggets played an almost flawless game. Denver improves to 13-6 and is currently in second place in the Western Conference.
Portland 104 New York 97 The Blazers continued their winning ways as the downed the Knicks in Madison Square Garden. Brandon Roy led the way with 23 points but it was Rudy Fernandez, Travis Outlaw, and Joel Przybilla off the bench who totaled 42 points, 22 points, and 6 three pointers that made all the difference. Chris Duhon followed up his 22 assist game with 23 points and 13 assists but the Knicks bench could only muster 20 points as the Knicks couldn't keep up with the Northwest Division leading Blazers. David Lee had a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Portland extended its winning streak to a season-high five straight games and now is 12-3 since starting the season 1-3.
