You're a boston fan - yea you're gonna say something like that - gotta back your team no matter what right? I'm a Lakers fan and a Paul Pierce fan, I seen him played WAY before you Boston cats even heard of him. But after what he did last night, come on now!!
Hey maybe if I do something like that now I can go home early from work....be back, gonna see if it works.
I've already stated my opinion on this, but in case you missed it, I'll say it again.
I'm glad it wasn't as serious as he initially made it look... but I think he was right to play it safe. He heard a pop in his knee... and he had no idea exactly what happened. Sure, he looks like a bit of a faker after coming back out and lighting up the Lakers. But I can't complain about the results, and I really can't blame him for erring on the side of caution.
Excellent points; I was thinking the same thing as I watched it !!
Now, the real question is - next year would he be fined for this ??!! (the new David Stern 'Fine-for-flopping' rule !!)
I hope that's a joke... I'll just assume it is, so I don't have to assume the worst about you.
But seriously... anyone who's comparing this to Willis Reed is kidding themselves. Pierce was right to react cautiously, and it was the right call to go get it checked out before continuing to play. And he DOES have a legitimate injury, although it's not as bad as I (and everyone else) originally feared.
Don't fault Pierce for being concerned about his health... but don't canonize him for his return, either. It worked out excellently for the Celtics, and I'm glad they were able to draw inspiration from it. And I'm glad that Pierce's injury isn't as bad as it could have been. But it's not a huge story. It could have been, but it's not... at least not yet. If he misses time later on, then it's a story. But for now, it's really nothing.
I do hate when they try slapping comparisons on things that are not comparable. Look to me it cheapens things. I know the broadcasters are trying to sell it and heighten the drama, but it is B.S. Let the games speak for themselves you can't force great moments. Hell the way advertisers and networks do broadcast of big games now, it seem more that the games get in the way of broadcast.
As for ESPN and I say this because I am a paranoid Laker fan (who has recaptured his fervor for hating the Celtics again), but I have felt that they are pulling for Boston, but as I have mentioned many times I am not a bright man.

Kudos to you or anyone who has read this mess.
Maybe I'm just a paranoid Celtics fan... but it seems like outside of Bill Simmons (and we all know where his loyalties lie), it seems like ESPN is just begging for a Lakers win.

As I said, I am not bright man and I might me suffering a serious case of "bunker mentality".
F Paul Pierce! Anyone who doesnt see what that bitch was pulling is blind as a bat. He needed 3 guys to lift his ass off the floor and the next thing you know he comes sprinting out of the locker room.
Gimme a f'in break. I hate the Celtics with a passion and cant wait till the series shifts out here to California and the Lakers blow them out of the building.

ok - I'm back and BETTER then ever!!!! Watch out keyboard......I'm gonna do some damage.......also, I grew up in Inglewood where Paul Piece attended High School...he lost alot of respect!! He's a BEE-EYE-ITCH!!!
Hmmm... you must have been watching a different game...
Thanks for your educated input, though.

And to add on to what I've already said... no one should look at this as being heroic on Pierce's behalf... it's nice that he came back, but let's not overhype it. Obviously he wasn't as hurt as everyone initially thought. So his return isn't THAT impressive, and certainly not comparable to Reed. But like I said... I'm glad it worked out that way.

You're right about him erring on the side of caution. Every sports player does that when he gets hurt in any play. But not all get carried out by 3 guys and then come back out like nothing happened. A real man would got up on his own or with help, walked over to the bench to have the medic look at it. And then if it wasnt nothing serious, go back to the game.

Hey, no matter what - this is going to be a good series, even with alittle acting...lets all just get along here, it's only a game....lets hug it out BITCHES!!!
Haven't heard that yet - I gotta get my ESPN fix now and see what's going on. Like I said, I've always been a Paul Pierce fan. Even when he went to the Celtics.
One of the more ridiculous threads I've read in while. Well done guys.
By the way, the only thing thats looks more ridiculous than this thread is going back and watching Pierce's reaction to being hurt. He looked like he thought his career was over. Not that it bothers me much, its just kind of funny to go back and watch.

exactly. He made an absolute jackass of himself, these Bostonians sure seem to be experts at that.
Who cares? The Lakers lost is all that matters! Whining about whether he faked the severity of the injury is after the fact. Instead of worrying about when Paul Pierce will be running back out of the tunnel you should be worrying about him taking open 3 pointers instead.

Bee Eye Itch??? What is that, some new form of pink eye?
Seriously though, anyone who has ever played sports know that you can get some pretty painful injuries, that don't necessarily last for more than an hour or so, especially injuries concerning the ankle, knee, or groin.
exactly. He made an absolute jackass of himself, these Bostonians sure seem to be experts at that.
Yeah, because Manu Ginobili doesn't hit the deck like he's been felled by a sniper's bullet 6-7 times a game.
As someone who's had multiple knee injuries, the thought of a major blowout is always in the back of your mind. He may have tweaked something just right where he thought he did some major damage. His reaction to not move and go out in a wheelchair was just as much psychological as it may have been physical. If you've had a tooth knocked out in the past and someone punches you in the face, your natural instinct is to probably make sure your teeth are still there.
Your anti-Boston sentiment sustains me. Gooood... Goooood... I can feel your anger...
Listen everyone, I'm a huuuuge Lakers fan and I can't stand the Celtics, but I applaud Paul Pierce for his gamesmanship last night. Come on Lakers fans, you all know that we love the flair for the dramatic too...We can't get mad cause Paul Pierce has "Heart". He was hurt, and very very very sore this morning. I'm not jealous of Paul Pierce. You can't hate the player, you can only hate the game.

I'm a big Lakers fan in Cali and I agree with you 100%...The Lakers need to come out on the 3pt shot better...Paul Pierce and every other NBA star will always treat a Knee Injury with caution. Look what happened to our boy Andrew Bynum. He hasn't played since late February...You can never tell with the knee...

Maybe he DID think his career was over... he said he heard a pop, and couldn't move his knee, at first. That's a pretty reasonable fear for an athlete, if you ak me.

What happened last night really makes no difference anymore. He is okay and the series is moving on. Thats all that matters.
Theres no way someone needing the assistance of three people can be categorized as simple fear.
Those of you that are blind or wearing blinders, please at least attempt to refrain from spreading lies among your fellow civilians.
Who says he NEEDED the assistance? He was being cautious... perhaps overly cautious, because he had no idea about the extent of the injury. How is this so difficult to understand? It's pretty simple, really...
I know this is off topic, but who the hell is abusing the PQ button? I am starting to agree with all the people who thought the PQ button was only going to lead to problems. For the new people, or the clinically brain dead, the I disagree icon is actually the reply to comment hyperlink, though if you were smart enough to come up with an actual debate on the issue, you'd probably would have already known that.

PERHAPS overly cautious?
Cmon dude feeling a pop and acting like you just watched your leg get amputated are not one and the same and stop pretending that Pierce did not overreact and try to seize the moment to soak up some attention.

Once again... he had no idea what happened to him. He doesn't have a history of knee injuries, and he was scared. It's not like he could have said "oh, that's normal... I'll be fine", His fear was reasonable, and while his initial reaction proved later to be excessive, I can't really blame him... nor am I complaining about the results.

So you know for a fact that he "HAD NO IDEA WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM" and that he was "JUST BEING CAUTIOUS".
Now please try to claim that is justification for being hauled off the court by half your roster, and then 5 minutes later he comes sprinting out of the locker room...

In game 1 of the NBA Finals.
Yes, that is exactly what it is. I'm not one of the people saying that Pierce showed amazing courage or anything... I'm not asking for anyone to praise him for showing so much heart. I'm merely telling you why I THINK he reacted the way that he did. In hindsight, I agree that it was excessive. But at the time, he was doing what he thought was best for his career, both in the short term and the long term.
So did nobody really see me say this in post #40 or does it just sound better when you guys repeat it?
This debate has gone on long enough. Anyone who's ever been hurt playing sports knows the same thing: If you can't get up and don't know what the hell is wrong, STAY DOWN.

I saw what you posted... but some people need things to be repeated several times... otherwise they just won't understand.
