Bravo to whoever organized this set of three exhibition matches between Roger Federer and Pete Sampras, the two best tennis players of my lifetime. Thumbs down, however, for failing to make this a television event here in America. Granted we aren't enthusiasts of the sports quite like the rest of the world, but showing a 36-year old Sampras against Pong would be huge. OK, maybe not, but I'd watch it in primetime over quite a few other options.
rivalries draw even if they are old ones. i would have liked to see the sampras/fedm match, but then i would be interested in seeing the old rivalries of connors/mcenroe or borg/mcenroe. sure, the speed wouldn't be the same, but it would be entertaining. sampras/fed has a higher skill level, but they don't really have the rivalry and so on, having only played once in their pro careers (i think). that could be another part of why it was not a big tv event....
Pete Sampras the best ever, and still the best. Why? At 4-1 second set, the Sampras of old showd up for that one game; five years removed, and that Pete would have his way with Federer. Next year a year older Pete would win. The King of swing
