Phillies Fans Riot, Take Over Fire Truck, Flip A Car On Broad Street In Downtown Philadelphia
It's Riot Time In Philly

You know what, despite the fact that I was rooting for the Rays in the World Series, it's clear I'm an idiot. I should have always been rooting for the Phillies. Why? Riots, plain and simple.

Do you really think St. Petersburg would be going nuts if the Rays had won the World Series? Not at all.

In Philly, there's so much pent up anger from years and years of failure that with one of their major sports teams finally having won a championship, all that frustration suddenly gets turned into a destructive joy that makes for tremendous video. Like, say, hijacking a bus tremendous.

Yep, in the video above, you'll see a fire truck slowly creep its way out into a sea of people on Broad Street in downtown Philly. In fact, you might not even be able to tell it's a fire truck at first, because there are 500 people on top of it.

Were people supposed to be on the fire truck? I think you know the answer to that. Considering how many fireworks were shot off in Philly last night, I'm 100% sure that firetruck really needed to get somewhere. But hey, if you're a true Phillies fan, I'm sure you'd gladly take a burned down house for a chance to celebrate a World Series title.

Or have your car flipped. Although having both happen is probably a bit much.

Real nice....if I caught some jacka** flipping over my car, they would die. If it was the guy's car, well, I'd like to see how he would report that to the insurance company. Especially when it's on tape. Seriously though, who the heck has this kind of mentality (not just in Philly, but any city that wins a championship) to go and destroy other people's property?

I'd be kicking some serious ass if that were my car. It does say volumes about the class of Phillies fans though. We won, lets go destroy things? Morons...it just saddens me that these people are voting for president and can freely procreate. China may be on to something.

That's really rich coming from an LSU fan.  LSU is the one place that I was treated criminally.  I had bottles thrown at me and at least three people (men, unfortunately) exposed themselves to me before a football game.

Of course fans that do these things are idiots.  That's not being a fan, that's being a criminal.

I love how we have such a short memory on fans acting stupid - like this is something that is soley a problem in Philadelphia.  Let me refresh your memories:

Minnesota  (College hockey?  Come on.....)

Boston  Boston

Los Angeles

Of course you realize this list could go on and on and on..........

Let's stick to giving the idiot fans a hard time, not all the Phiilies fans.

Why do a lot of champions have idiot fans? Every year or so, we see a group of fans that lose it when they win. I remember all the times WVU fans would go tear down goalposts and turn over cars when they beat Penn State and Pitt for the first time in like eons back in the 80's under Don Nehlen. Just a bunch of idiots.

Oh man, you didn't even get into soccer riots. I'd add all the YouTube clips but I'd be 78 before I got done linking all of them.

Touche'.  Especially about LSU fans.  Every team has their group of idiot fans, but LSU fans may take the cake.  I know season ticket holders who won't go see games in Baton Rouge because of how they were treated in the past.

The exception to all of this is, of course, the fans of my beloved Braves.  The biggest inconvenience Braves fans will cause if they win a championship is a traffic jam.  Because if the Braves win a world series, it's the only way the fans will go to the game.

Goalpost is one thing.....they come down anyway, I don't really see the harm in that. When it comes to overturning cars, setting fires to buildings and destroying things, I think that the penalties should be more severe. Kinda like when they double the fines for speeding in a school/construction zone.

You morons.  If Philadelphia wants your opinion we'll ask for it.  It sure does say volumes about Philly fans.  We are out of our minds about our sports.  I'm tired of you whiney *explitive deleted* prudes ruining my day.  Don't park your car here because I would gladly flip it myself.
Great attitude.....and we don't to be asked for an opinion, we just give it. Like it or not.

This happens in a lot of places.  People are just trying to make Philly out to be Watts.  The sme thing would have happened in Tampa if they had shown up/won

Not likely.  I think they would have put the "retirement communities" on lockdown to prevent such a scene.  That or they would have had huge Bingo party or something.

What is moronic is making sweeping generalizations about who should vote or procreate. What's  up nazi. Anyway, i was out there and it was an interesting phenomenom to witness. The electricity in the air, the emotion, and the record numbers of people made the city a breeding ground for something to go wrong. Yes there are a lot of knuckleheads who make up the Phillies fan base, and sports fans tend to have macho testosterone levels that make them think car flipping is cool. But what happened last night was way more complicated than that. No one seems to be bringing up the fact that all the stick up kids from north philly, the homeless population, punk rock squatters, drug addicts, and basically every shirtless tattood troublemaking ex-con in the city.... none of whom could give a shit about baseball and probably didn't even watch the game... were all out in full force doing their dirt and steering things in a bad direction. My point is this. A beautiful expression of Philly love and positive energy that i've never seen the likes of, was preyed upon by criminals. That could have happened in any city. Maybe we have more idiots here, i don't know, i didn't see that poll. But anyone who thinks they can watch a few youtube videos and pass judgment on an entire city, is a simple-minded fool.

A Tampa fan posting about riots in Philadelphia after the world series win is laughable, as is the rest of the post.  You are bitter about losing.

The original post reads... "Do you really think St. Petersburg would be going nuts if the Rays had won the World Series? Not at all."

Perhaps you are correct, they choose other reasons:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tampa_Riots
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Petersburg,_Florida_Riot_1996

The bottom line is that in a crowd of thousands, there are bound to be hoodlums, goons and idiots.  They don't live only in Philly, my links show they live in Tampa too, and St. Pete's.  And they live in NYC, Detroit, etc.

Thanks for highlighting a few bad folks in a celebration (and minor riot) which not nearly as destructive as those listed above.  Bitter, bitter, bitter is all you are.

To be fair, here is the list of riots http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_riots, and Philly has had it's share, but don't make yourself look foolish by standing on your crumbling soap box about the nobility of Tampa/St. Pete's, which has the same hooligans and goons.  Stop being a sore loser.  But hey, you're a great representative for Tampa/St. Pete's, makes me glad we won.
