DeJuan Blair had quite the game Monday night in #4 Pittsburgh's 76-68 win over #1 UConn. He put in 23 points, had 22 rebounds, and it came while playing against one of the best big men in the country, Hasheem Thabeet. Now while Thabeet had probably one of his worst nights, 1-for-5 shooting and was stuck on the bench most of the night with foul trouble, early in the game, he also nearly had his arm broken by Blair (0:08 in the above video). Going up and taking down a rebound, Thabeet made a mistake I'm sure he will be very hesitant to make again, and stuck his hand in between the ball and DeJuan's body.
While it solely reminds me of a wrestling move I used to see all the time watching WWF growing up, UConn and Thabeet seems to be very fortunate his arm was not broken in the act, however they did suffered the loss tonight, and probably no longer the #1 seed in NCAA basketball.
With that performance, Blair has inserted his name firmly in the Player of the Year conversation. I doubt that he wins, but numbers like that on the road against #1 speak for themselves.
This Pitt team is better than I've ever seen. I like how the announcers said he had his arm grabbed, well there's not much else that can happen when you try to reach over someone's back like that. Just goes to show how strong Blair is though if he can flip a guy over his back like that who just happens to be half a foot taller than him.
