It's been an interesting couple weeks since the Tampa Bay Rays success made it's way to the cover of Sports Illustrated. I wouldn't call it a jinx, but maybe SI was on to something when it depicted a muscle-bound, roid-raged Carl Crawford in cartoon form.
For the second time in a week, the Rays got into a heated fight. This time it was with themselves.
After Matt Garza gave up a solo home run in the 4th inning Sunday against the Rangers, catcher Dioner Navarro stormed to the mound and got into his pitcher's face. You can see Garza trying to defuse the situation and limit further embarrassment by yelling "I got it, I got it." Then when that didn't work he put his glove over his mouth and likely offered some choice words.
It wasn't over. Garza followed Navarro into the dugout and went all Carlos Zambrano on his catcher. Maybe ownership should rethink the elimination of Devil from the nickname, these Rays have some serious fight.
For those three, maybe four original Tampa fans out there, I wouldn't worry too much about the recent blow ups. In fact, I see it as a very good sign that they're passionate about winning and won't take any crap from the Red Sox, Yankees, or teammates.
Seeing as how the Rays and Sox meet several more times, I doubt this is the last case of fisticuffs we'll see from Tampa Bay.
