Rays' Matt Garza and Dioner Navarro Fight Each Other
Color Carlos Zambrano and Michael Barrett Impressed

It's been an interesting couple weeks since the Tampa Bay Rays success made it's way to the cover of Sports Illustrated. I wouldn't call it a jinx, but maybe SI was on to something when it depicted a muscle-bound, roid-raged Carl Crawford in cartoon form.

For the second time in a week, the Rays got into a heated fight. This time it was with themselves.

After Matt Garza gave up a solo home run in the 4th inning Sunday against the Rangers, catcher Dioner Navarro stormed to the mound and got into his pitcher's face. You can see Garza trying to defuse the situation and limit further embarrassment by yelling "I got it, I got it." Then when that didn't work he put his glove over his mouth and likely offered some choice words.

It wasn't over. Garza followed Navarro into the dugout and went all Carlos Zambrano on his catcher. Maybe ownership should rethink the elimination of Devil from the nickname, these Rays have some serious fight.

For those three, maybe four original Tampa fans out there, I wouldn't worry too much about the recent blow ups. In fact, I see it as a very good sign that they're passionate about winning and won't take any crap from the Red Sox, Yankees, or teammates.

Seeing as how the Rays and Sox meet several more times, I doubt this is the last case of fisticuffs we'll see from Tampa Bay.

Two videos in one day on the Q from a Rangers/Rays game?  That's gotta be some kind of record.

I think he was channeling Jamie Navarro, that dude was a total ass.

Having done a little more reading on the subject, it seems that a lot of people are siding with Navarro on this one. I guess Garza is a bit of an idiot and the locals feel Garza may need a good slapping around to get his head straight.

Still not sure doing it on the mound is a great idea though.

You are way off base on this one: Navarro is an up and coming leader on the team as all catchers should be( see Jason Varitek). What the clip doesn't show you (I watched this entire game) is Garza acting like a Little Leaguer after he gave up a home run to the Rangers #9 hitter AFTER he had shaken of Navarro's signs. Garza is very immature, ask a Twins fan if you need more convincing.

Sorry, just thought it was off base. You are not a Rays fan, obviously. Navarro is the first half MVP on the most surprising team in baseball. A scrub? WAAAY off. Leads a young pitching staff with discipline, hits for the highest average on the team and the highest with runners in scoring percentage, makes unbelievable defensive plays (see the Anaheim series when he threw out a runner trying to advance on a overthrow from the outfield) and throws out nearly 40% of base-stealers. His OPS is over .800. Bats .364 with a pair of homers in late inning close game situations. He was a former Top Ten prospect with the Dodgers organization. Scrub compared to whom? Ivan Rodriguez in his heyday? Why would you comment on a team you have periphery knowledge of?

Well, didn't know you were a baseball expert. Once again, I apologize.
I'm not sure when I was defensive, just tryin to share some knowledge with everyone about what the situation is was really like, not just a ESPN-like youtube clip that didn't tell the correct context.
Garza has responded well to the sit-down meetings  both Joe Maddon and Troy Percival has had with him.
