College student Robby Donoho watched Landon Donovan’s golden goal on Wednesday and decided it was worthy of an instant tribute. Donoho, a 21 year old Purdue University student, collected a montage of clips of USA fans celebrating Donovan's goal and put them into a video that was put on youtube. Within hours, the video had over 100,000 hits, including Landon Donovan himself, who saw the video and linked it up to his facebook account. Like Donovan, this video brings me to tears. I'll happily admit that I am a blubbering fool when something special and heartwarming happens to the teams I follow. I wear the colors of my teams proudly on my sleeve and will forever show the emotions that come no matter what the outcome. I've watched the US/Algeria game 4 times now and it continues to give me chills. I've seen the clips of Donovan's goal and the celebrations after many more times and it still makes me tear up. This video is a culmination of that, something all sports fans should see. Soccer isnt as big of sport in this country as it is in other parts of the world, but you would never be able to tell that from this video.
My favorite clip is the some guy in Arkansas and the kid who runs up the stairs and slides down. I wasnt to that extreme but I was shouting loudly and screaming at the top of my lungs.. USA, USA, USA. Regardless of what happens tomorrow against Ghana, you cant deny that the red, white and blue have infused some life for there sport and fans in this country have/are paying attention.
